If your MIL was sick but on antibiotics
Would it be rude/inconsiderate to ask her not to come over today to watch the game. She was going to come and bring BIL. My DH said it probably wouldn't be a good idea, considering she still sounds awful and is coughing constantly. I mean even if she is on antibiotics, what she has may IMO be viral, since she does not sound any better 5 days later.
DD is 5 months and we don't want to risk it.
She sounded annoyed and BIL alluded to the fact that she is.
Are we wrong on this one?

nope, not at all...what if she has a cold too like you said, which the antibiotics wont help. I would play it safe and also not have her come over. Is she going to come over and watch your DC if they get sick and get up with them all night long like you or your DH would have too??

I think it might hurt her feelings. If it was me...I would let her come over, and just not hold the baby. As long as she isn't wiping her germs on your DD...she should be fine.

I would not let her come over. I'm sure she is annoyed, but honestly, the health of my child outweighs her feelings being hurt.

ITA! She *should* understand, but if she doesn't, I would still not want her over.

Re: If your MIL was sick but on antibiotics
NO WAY, she would not be allowed in my home if she is still clearly sick. Coughing is the #1 way to transmit a cold via droplets in the air. And if it's viral as you said, abs mean nothing anyway. So NO.

See this would be a problem b/c she LOVES to see and hold my DD. So it would be more awkward I think to say no, sorry we have to go to the other room b/c you sound sick. At that point she would be so close to her already, that is why we said no.
I hope it doesn't escalate and she continues to be upset with us. but as another poster said, my daughter's health is more important than her hurt feelings...

If she was on antibiotics for more than 24 hours she should be fine. Just ask her not to handle the baby so much and to please catch her sneezes in a tissue.

I would do the same. If it was a newborn, there would be no question that I would ask her to stay home.

Totally agreed.... You could have her wash her hands and use any kind of antibacterial lotion/gel on her hands before handling DD.
And NO KISSES!

Something like this happened to us last week. We invited my in-laws over last weekend for dinner. I noticed my MIL was coughing alot (she is a smoker too, so I thought maybe that's it). Well, DH talked to her today and she has bronchatis (sp???) I had a feeling, I am so paranoid now when anyone coughs around Gavin or us (DH & I).
He seems fine and so are we, so I think we should be okay.
