i work in an employee/consultant atmosphere. it seems if a male employee is having a baby a shower is thrown, but if its a consultant we do a collection for a gift. i think they figure consultants make more money

We always do something in the office - Male or Female - doesn't matter. We just don't do the cheesy 'oh how cute' baby stuff w/ the guys

After DS was born, DH got gifts from all the women he works with and one of his male boses. But no formal shower or anything with cake or donuts or anything like that.

Yes. In our office, its the same for guys and girls.
Same where I teach! We always have showers (bridal and baby) for both males and females!
Same here.
In our employee handbook, everyone is entitled to one bridal and one baby shower (yes, it's in the handbook - you should hear it when some people have gotten 2!)

DHs coworkers brought in a cake and gave him a card with cash in it when both our sons were born. I thought the gesture was really sweet.
I honestly don't think i would be into throwing an all out "shower" for a guy...i don't even think most guys would want that to tell you the truth. But an acknowledgment with a gift card is perfect in my eyes.

not a shower, but we have collected for a BRU gift card.
This is what DHs office did when DS was born, the company also sent us a baby blanket with DSs name and DOB on it ..and a teddy bear holding the company logo

My DH's office is throwing him a surprise shower tomorrow. He doesn't even know that I'm going to be there. I thought it was so sweet of them to think of him.

yes...we did that with one of my co-workers. Had pizza and a cake and everyone chipped in for a gift. I think it's a nice gesture
