If you use an in home daycare or babysitter

How did you find them and what things did you look for when deciding whether or not to send DC there?

I want to start either babysitting one or two kids in my home or watching kids after school and tutoring/helping them with their homework. I went to school for teaching but the job market is soooo bad and if I sub or TA then I will have to put DC in daycare and that will cost more then what I will make in those two positions so it's not worth it. I want to do a job that uses my skills and education and most of all, what I love doing I am just having a hard time finding kids to watch. How do I put myself out there for parents to find me?

i dont know if you guys have a page on FB like this for your area.

but i found my daycare provider on and FB group for local home daycares.

turned out to be the best decision i made for my daughter AND for myself.
my daughter went there for 3 years (will go back again in sept when i go back to school or before if i find a job) she LOVES it there.
shes one of my very good friends now too.

I found mine through my neighbor. Her kids are older but she has friends that have used my day care. I looked at a few but wound up choosing one that is licensed and we love it. I love how there is a nice set up with different areas for the kids to do things. I really think word of mouth is the best way! Good luck!

The moms whose children I watched found me on Care.com. You can put yourself and what your looking for on there so daycare providers can contact you as well. Good luck!!

ok dont judge but i found my sitter on craigslist. i put an ad up looking for a babysitter and got TONS of responses. she was the only one i met with and i love her! she was a teacher as well but got laid off and had a hard time finding a job. she also worked in a day care and as a nanny which i liked because i knew she had experience with children. we were both pregnant at the same time and our kids were born on the same day!
she watched my lil man in her home.

where are you located? i actually have to possibly find a sitter or program to watch DH's 2 boys before and after school. probably 4 hours a day, as we just won custody of them and have to change their school districts
