In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
Hello! A woman in my neighborhood watches my DS 4 days a week in her home.
What do people like this usually charge for 2 kids? Just wondering if her rate would double or just go up a few dollars?
For example, if I pay $5 per house, do you think she will charge me $10 for 2 children or maybe $7 or $8? It will be for 3 or 4 days a week.
I cant imagine paying her double, it would be more than my mortgage!!!

Re: In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
im pretty sure a lot of people do like a 20% discount or something similar, for the second child.

Re: In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
Oh that isnt good! I was hoping she only charges me $3-$4 more an hour which is way more than a 20% discount! I guess I feel that since she is not licensed she may give me a deal since we are good payers? LOL, I am probably so wrong about this!

Re: In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
If she isn't licensed I would think she should give you a better deal. When she tells you her price, I would tell her you expected it would be a little less since she's saving so much by doing it out if her home & not being licensed.

This is what I am thinking and hoping! Thanks

First, I want to say that $5 an hour is very cheap! When I hire a babysitter for a night out the going rate is at least $8-12 an hour.
Second, you are doubling the amount of children so why wouldn't you think she would double the amount you pay???

I pay more than $5/ hour, I was just using those figures as an example.
Yes, I would expect the rate to double if I was using a licensed in-home day care which I am not.

Re: In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
We are interviewing licensed in home providers now. One has a low rate to begin with and there is no discount for a second child. The other is a higher rate but 50% discount for 2nd child. Personally wether the provider is licensed or not they are in fact doing twice the work. Years ago I was a nanny and the family asked me to sit for them on a weekend. I gave them a rate based on what my pay was and the fact that I would now be working overtime. I did it the one time and they never asked again. But I also worked another job on weekends and would lose time from there.

Oh, sorry I thought you said you paid $5 an hour. I use an in-home daycare and they gave us a 20% discount on the second child.

Re: In-Home Daycare/Babysitter Question
I know two people in real life and one babysitter didn't increase their fee for the 2nd baby and what they pay is dirt cheap, like 1k a month for 2 kids 4 days a week. This other girl I know pays 10/ hour for 2 kids in her house for 5 days and hours from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm. Both non-liscened neighborhood ladies who watch kids, similar to me. I guess that is not really the norm though based on what you guys are saying!
