If you had severe nausea during PG,
other than Zofran, what helped you?
A friend of mine is PG, and she has tried the Zofran... it made her sicker.
She tried B6.... made her sicker
Tried preggie pops - nothing
What worked for you?

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
I think mine was pretty severe, and it lasted through 26 weeks. I would have to pull over all the time on the way to work onthe side of the parkways. Everyone must have thought I was hungover....
Lemonaid worked somewhat. Also carbs....

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
I thought Zofran was for severe vomiting while pregnant? so if she is just nauseous, maybe that's why it made her sicker. I had nausea every single day from 6 weeks to 17 weeks. Tried it all (except medication), nothing helped to be honest

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
I got sick sometimes on zofran, eventually we found out that in slow doses all day long it helped me. Unfortunatly I needed to have a Port in my leg and receive it via IV, but it helped me survive.
I was sick from 6 weeks - 40 weeks.
I lived on Ginger Ale, it was the only fluid I could keep down. Water was the devil. Water makes nausea worse.
Sometimes I could tolerate stale coke ( the syrup helps) and when I could eat , I would have bagels and or cheese. Studies have been done that cheese helps with severe nausea.
I always carried lemons with me, lemons worked great, the smell helps.
I also had IV fluids at the hospital a few times and was good for a day or so after.
Dehydration leads to worse nausea...

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
Does she have HG? (Hyperemisis). You know I went through this. Zofran did not help with DD#1 or #2 but did with #3. I had it through an IV throughout the pregnancy though coupled along with other medications. FM if you want to go into it more.

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
I vomited multiple times a day for the first seven months of pregnancy. None of the medicine worked for me. What did work were those seabands, lemonaid, gingerbread men cookies, and this orageaid drink and mangos. I found that eating soft food was best because it was not so bad on the revisit.

I dont like to think about it now..LOL...but there were times I was not thinking I would make it, but then I'd have a good day and just survive....It took me a long time to have Noah and so I guess that helped me realize it was all worth it in the end.
Once they found the IV worked, it was much better and the end of my PG was not as bad as it might have been. I had home care and the women on the phone( I would call at 3 am cause the room was spinning from nausea) they were angels, they really helped me survive.
But I used to cry and SOB when I saw food commercials b/c I was literally starving ...so hungry but the littlest thing..even a cracker would make me wretch for hours.
But like I siad, all for good cause

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
Honestly, I was sick for 19 weeks, and commuting to NYC, it was awful...tried all and what worked best, charms sour apple blow pops--worked better for me than zofran.

I was right there too...it was miserable.
Nothing works, it really doesn't.
I s zofran making your friend worse, or is it just not working? I still threw up with the zofran, but I could function a little bit with it too.

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
Kristina, I used Zofran pump (small doses through out the day through the cathiter along with Relan, Phenegrin, Pecid and an IV of fluids during that time of my last pregnacy. The pregnancy before this past was the worst for nothing helped. I did after the last hospital visit go on steroids. I felt better for a couple days but ultimetly lost the baby (not saying she will). Most importantly she needs to discuss seeing a specialist other than her OB. The speicalist will help her with whatever else she may need. If she has been hospitalized and on IV's she qualifies for a high risk specialist dotor and home health care. this is what I did. I don't take this stuff lightly obviously for a lot of people are mis treated. I hope she gets some relief. It's awful

Re: If you had severe nausea during PG,
If it is not too late to add my 2cents, tell her to stick with the remediies she is trying. When I thought that something was not working, I would stop and then get worse. That's how it was with the Sea Bands. I would decide that they were a crock of BS, take them off and then get worse. The preggie pops worked sometimes but it was worth it to use them even if they worked 40 percent of the time!
