If you gave birth at Winthrop, please come in!

I delivered my son at Winthrop and will be delivering there again in November. The first time around, obviously everything was all new, so it was such a whirlwind, and I just kind of went with the flow and didn't ask too many questions. Everything really worked out wonderfully and I had a great birth experience. However, now that I have had a year and a half to think back on all of it, there are some things I'd like to do differently this time around. So I have a few questions, if anyone knows the answers!

-I have read that some L&D rooms have tubs. Do you have to request this ahead of time? When you check in? Or is it just luck of the draw? I would LOVE to use a tub while I'm laboring.

-I have heard that every room has a birthing bar, and you just need to ask for it if you want to use it. Is that true?

-Did anyone bring a yoga ball to use during labor? I'd really like to bring one, and it sounds like it's really common, but I don't know anyone who actually used one. Just wondering how the staff there feels about that.

TIA for any info! Chat Icon

I think you have to request a tub and birthing bar bc I didn't have either one. Honestly, I don't even think they have tubs. I have visited many people there, some in private rooms, and none of them have ever had one. Can't hurt to ask! I had a c-section so I didn't bring a yoga ball but that def shouldn't be a problem. Good Luck!!

I was there 2 years ago, but i didn't notice if any L&D rooms had birthing tubs. My bathroom had a shower stall in it and the toilet. I also know that when I was there it was very busy.
As far as the birthing bar, I think they have them, you just have to ask for it.
As for the yoga ball, I didn't bring one. Once I had the epidural I wasn't allowed out of bed.

As per my midwife, there are two or three rooms w/tubs. You do have to ask for them in advance. When you call your OB that you're in labor, let them know you want one of those rooms. You can't give birth in the tub.

No clue about the birthing bar.

The staff has seen birthing balls before. They should be fine with it - and if they're not, $crew them. If you think it'll help, bring it. They're about $20 at Dic k's sporting goods.

eta the store name. LIF thinks it's obscene Chat Icon

I just gave birth at Winthrop for the second last month and I had planned on asking for a birthing bar but I didn't need to because the labor and delivery was so quick! I didn't seen one in the room though so I guess you have to ask. And the bathroom did not have a tub.

I used a birthing bar with my DD 3 years ago there and it was actually the nurses idea. I also was admitted at 33 weeks due to some complications and the room I was in had a tub. It was room number 1. I am not sure how many rooms have them though.

lol......... ITA. The birthing ball helped me SOOOOO much at DS's birth (which was not at winthrop) but I definitely plan on bringing it with me for this next one (which will be at Winthrop), and if someone doesn't like it, F em!

I need to check on the tub w/midwife! That would be nice!! Thanks for the heads up!
