I agree. I feel like this site is split between people who take Covid seriously and people who don't.

I agree!! It's maddening how nonchalant some people are about this.

I would notsay nonchalant, I would say tired.

I know it exists, I know what it is, however media or government will never tell you how many people out of those millions who got covid that were perfectly fine afterwards and will only concentrate on the people whom died to scare everyone to do as they say and make their decision for you as what is best for you and your own. That’s what I’m tired of. This is not going away. I know it triggers people but just like the flu, every year will be a different strain and we will have to learn to live with it and move on. We got a vaccine, get it if you want or don’t. 100 percent of people will not be vaccinated so it’s time to go to plan b and move on.

Kling klang are you ok? Serious question you are sounding a little like you did in spring of 2020.

Perfectly fine. Honestly, just really sick of the mask obsession here. Or someone telling someone to use common sense or to stop watching the news. Some people take this seriously and some have lost family members and friends. If they want to wear a mask, let them. They have their reasons. It has nothing to do with common sense and being scared by the “media.”

I agree. I feel like this site is split between people who take Covid seriously and people who don't.

This is not even what happened. Her response had nothing to do with anything she posted above or taking Covid seriously. Let’s not twist the back and forth that happened yesterday into something else when it’s in clear English and black and white.

What really happened:
-I laughed at Nels response because the irony was funny nothing to do with Covid being a joke

-Kingklang insinuated we were ignorant and reminded us about other stuff going on in the world

-I went back on how her response was stupid and a deflection

-she came back on to make fun of my name, told me to get a clue and how I generalized all of Europe. Said I was incoherent.

Meanwhile I never once said anything about Europe, I posted a laughing emoji. Once again I’m nasty and get attacked, meanwhile she never responded to Nells perfect response to where she was coming from when she mentioned France. How come she never actually discussed with the person who said it? But went on a nonsensical tangent with me when I am not the one who posted the comeback about France having protest in the first place.

It’s weird how I am always the first one to be called Nasty and aggressive even when I say the least in a thread.Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: and I am glad she is ok because honestly her rants didn’t make any sense and reminded me of the time she attacked me for posting a joke last year. There is history with this behavior.

Actually someone referred to me in that thread:

"Picturing certain posters leaning over with eyes closed and hands over ears saying shut up shut up shut up to the fact that the enlightened people in Europe are protesting anything related to Covid restrictions and the vaccine."

"Sarcasm windy.. you know natural chill Kling are the ones that I am referring to"

And then people were laughing, so I responded with how the situation is over here for me.

I probably should have responded to that quote instead, but I didn't. Hindsight is 20/20. Incidentally, the person who said that also asked if I was "OK." She said she asked it in a serious manner, but I don't really think so.

Again I never said any of those things you quoted above but got the biggest backlash from you. Also the post where we were laughing had nothing to do with what you quoted above as well. None of those were inline when I responded with the laughing Emoji.

You made it a point to combine all of it together. You called the people who were laughing simply at the irony of the protests in France ignorant. We were not laughing at wearing masks, not laughing at Covid but the timing of the protest when earlier some said they would not protest.

LittleDiva and Nell were not wrong in their response, which in fact made it funny.

I can completely relate to this. Tired is a great way to put it. Honestly the best way. So so tired.

I also agree it’s such a personal choice and should be left to the individual person to decide to vaccinate or not when it comes to this specific vaccine. Mainly because it is so new. And not everyone wants to be a part of the experiment. I took the leap and did it mainly bc of how sick I got when I had Covid. I decided to take my chances. I. Me. Myself decided I’m going to try this. I have friends and family who refuse the vaccine. Some had Covid already (mild) and others have escaped it. Some refuse to wear a mask , others accept this exists , wears masks when in crowded areas and takes their chances with catching the disease. At this point we all know what can happen and should be able to take matters into our own hands. The day would never come where I force people into taking an experimental vaccine or treat them like second class citizens because they won’t.
I would also like the reverse to happen as well. Being called a sheep, waiting for vaccinated to become zombies, etc. adults. Adults on both ends of this are acting this way. It’s frightening actually.

Just as an aside... my mother works in a hospital. 3 employees from her department or nearby departments have gotten covid in the last week. All vaccinated.

No, none of them are seriously ill and it's no more than a bad cold or fever. However, it's happening and you CAN still get covid from this. Right now, the vaccine seems to be working in terms of keeping you from serious illness, but the less we all wear masks, the more this can mutate into strains that will be worse.

Not to mention, this is a family board. Many of us have young children on this forum. Vaccinated adults can pass this virus. Those 3 individuals at my mom's work all passed to their families.

I don't think this is true at all. I think a vast majority of the people on this site, and in NY as a whole took Covid very seriously. Our kids were out of school, we were quarantined, we had people lose their jobs and have had people die. No one is denying that. But there needs to become a time when we calculate the risks and start moving on. There is never going to be a time when there are no illnesses in the world. Now with every single thing on the internet and there basically being no impartial news sources anymore, people think they are experts when they are not. If you want to wear masks and social distance, they go ahead. If you do not, then take the risk (with the vaccine should be minimal).

I agree with other points that you made, and points that Mrs. Woods made that you responded to, but I'm quoting these sentences specifically because I REALLY agree with them. It is disturbing how grown adults are acting on both extremes.

It is disturbing. I went to a family BBQ, pretty much everyone was vaccinated except the kids, myself and my cousin. My cousin had Covid really bad last year at the start of the pandemic. It was horrible because it was just her with Covid and her kids at home in quarantine. She was talking about how she never wants to get it again. I told her she should get Vaccinated and if she plans on doing it. Her response, I don’t want to turn into a zombie. That our family aside from us were going to turn into zombies. I laughed so hard and told her stupid ass to get the vaccine.

Shows how extreme adults can be with this.

You had to see my face. We kind of laughed it off and didn’t dwell on it but I did tell her several times she really should research the vaccine since she was really really sick.

Yes, and there are all sides to this story.
My BIL texted us last night that his best friend's healthy 18 year old son died- right after his second does of the vaccine- he got a blood clot that travelled to his lung. Of course you can't 100% prove that was due to the vaccine but it's coincidental enough that even his doctors are contributing it to that. He had no history of any blood clots, issues like that etc
Now if this 18 year old had gotten Covid, it's pretty likely he would have lived.
So now my BIL is freaking out and warning us not to get it or especially give it to our child.
So people's opinions and fears of things- whether it be Covid itself, or the vaccine- are shaped by their own PERSONAL experiences.
And nobody should be made to feel guilty for that -one way or the other.

Yes and yes!

There is no end point. We’re all running blindly at this point. We did what we were supposed to for “2 weeks” and it’s still not good enough. It’s a big secret as to what numbers will make us back to norma. There is no plan and many won’t follow blindly anymore.

The worst thing to me is how political it is. Somehow a global pandemic became political. Health shouldn’t part of a political division. Most people’s feelings on vaccines and covid align with their political views. That’s .. something.

I was reading an article and the FDA commissioner who existed under Trump even said that most unvaccinated people will catch the variant and it will be the sickest they will ever be in their lives. That’s his position.

I read it and I’m concerned about my friends and family who have opted to roll the dice. We could have eradicated this. I think we will be on lockdown soon enough again but maybe (hopefully?) I am wrong.

“And for most people who get this delta variant, it’s going to be the most serious virus that they get in their lifetime in terms of the risk of putting them in the hospital,” he added.

Gottlieb, who served under former President Donald Trump before the pandemic, spoke as cases of the disease were climbing across America, with the seven-day average of reported coronavirus cases soaring nearly 70% last week.

I think the distinction is not people who are taking it seriously vs. people who are not taking it seriously but rather people who are afraid of covid vs. people who are not afraid of covid. Some people have already decided that they are willing to take the risk of living life the way we used to even with the risk of covid and at this point if you are not willing to take the risk there are enough protections available to you, that those that choose to take the risks should no longer be a concern to you. They are putting themselves at risk, not you. At this point, just do you and don't worry about anyone else.

All of this. I have little doubt that mask mandates will be back in full force again - soon. And that a shut down of many businesses may not be far behind. And get a vaccine, don't get a vaccine - yes, it is a personal choice, but the development of the variants that will cause all of this to happen is highly related to the unvaccinated. I know - no one who is unvaccinated will admit that, but it's true. So if (when) it happens again, and if you haven't gotten vaccinated, you are a big part of the reason why.

Just out of curiosity, without closing our borders, how do you think that we could have eradicated this? This is a global pandemic and there are not nearly enough doses of the vaccine nor the resources to administer it globally at this point. If the virus is still ravaging other countries with the opportunity for vaccine resistant strains to develop in those countries, why would it matter if the US reaches herd immunity right now? This is not 1920 with the spanish flu where people were not traveling all over the globe the way we are now.

I think if the messaging from the previous administration made it serious, united us, explained how patriotic it is to come together as one people and beat this, it would have helped matters greatly.

Instead, it became joking about diapers on faces, how churches should be packed on easter, freedums, and sowed discourse and created divisions.

Instead, it became joking about diapers on faces, how churches should be packed on easter, freedums, and sowed discourse and created divisions.

I think you give the President of the US too much credit.
I don't care enough for ANY president we ever had, or anyone who has ever run, to take their word as gospel.
I form my own opinions on what I should and should not do in terms of taking a vaccine, and giving said vaccine to my family as well as what precautions I feel are necessary once the mandates are lifted.
I suppose there are some that are easily influenced by whatever word comes out of the White House, but I don't think it's enough to have made a huge difference.

Common sense to put on a mask, you would otherwise not be wearing, because you see a stranger wearing one that you “assume” is scared and you want them to feel better?
I have gotten attacked over and over for noticing anyone EVEN wearing one because I must be obsessed with masks but this is ok?
Funny how people have been out and about in crowds for months but there is no spikes from those places. If it is as bad as the media makes it out to be, then those places would be closing and you would have much more cases and hospitalizations and deaths.

Shut up and mind your own business when it comes to people wearing masks.. It doesn't matter why someone is wearing a mask. It doesn't have anything to do with you and you still harp on it.

Is there a reason why you have to get so nasty? Is that one of the prerequisite to get in the mean girls clique on this board? SMH

Using the context of my previous reply to be condescending to another poster?
You got it wrong though. It’s common courtesy, not common sense. There’s a difference. But it’s looking like common courtesy may be a foreign concept for you.

It makes no sense at all and you know it as you have no clue why this person has a mask on but you are assuming and seem to take it personal.
I have noticed masks but have been attacked for it but you are a hero because you do too but because of your own anxiety of a strangers feeling, and you out on your mask, you are better?

We could have eradicated this.

Same sentiment. Like i said, our government would rather have us scared shitless and in check the way they want us to be than throw down actual facts on survival rate vs death rate of Covid.
