If you are not Christian or Jewish are you offended by decorations that are out this time of year?

I used to work with someone who said that she was offended by Christmas music being played in Target because they assumed that everyone celebrated Christmas. She was Muslim. She wasn't nasty about it but I would have never thought that was offensive.

My Dh is muslim (he doesnt practice tho), hes not offended. His family actually celebrates the nonreligious aspect of christmas.

I have never really thought about it like this before, however from what I can rememeber from the past years the music is holiday themed, not always about christmas.

DH is an Atheist and I just asked him if he is ever offended and he looked at me like I have two heads So I guess the answer is no.

I'm not offended but I feel very badly for children who do not celebrate Christmas and are sort of forced into doing Christmas stuff (like in the UK they do nativity plays at schools...pretty much at most schools) at school. I think Children can feel very uninvolved.

I can understand with how commerical the holidays are with it getting on someone's nerves because you are literally surrounded by Christmas from every angle. And being in the majority in this country in celebrating Christmas I guess I can't really know how I would feel, but I don't think it would bother me. I'm happy for other people celebrating their holidays joyfully. I love it when I'm driving in a Jewish neighborhood and I can see the sukkah in the backyard... Also in my neighborhood I believe it was hte Indian families who had candles everywehre one night a few weeks ago. I thought ti was very pretty and it made me curious to learn about their holiday

i'm jewish. when i was in the car yesterday, i was listening to christmas music. i feel, if they don't want to listen to the christmas music, they could change the channel

I really practice NO religion and DH's family is Hindu and Muslim, they get into more than anyone I have seen. So no offense here.

Reminds me of a south park episode where the whoe town goes crazy over things they find offensive, including mistletoe and lights, lol!! People need to RELAX!!

That's just silly - christmas music doesn't bother me at all.

ETA - though, just ONCE I'd love to be strolling down the aisles of the supermarket and hear "oh dreidal dreidal dreidal, I made it out of clay"

I think that this applies to people who are Jehovah's witnesses or the like. I have a student in my class who cannot participate in any holiday celebrations. We try to avoid doing holidays and birthday celebrations and if we do, she goes into another classroom. I think those are the people who would be offended at the decorations, music etc.

Also, I wish there were more Chanukah stuff. Even though christmas is commercialized, I wish Chanukah would become more too ! I would love to have a blow up tigger lighting the menorah on my lawn :) LOL

I'm offended by the commercialism. It seems the true spirit of the holidays has gotten completely lost.

As for the decorations . . . it drives me crazy that they are out before Thanksgiving. IMHO, retailers are trying to force the holiday down everyone's throat.

Let's face it, for those that celebrate x-mas we know it comes on December 25 - every year like clockwork. Do I need Sears to put up fake x-mas trees for sale in October to tell me the holiday is coming?????

There is not a hint of Christmas where I work, and I am not offended in the least. We decorate for Hannakah and it doesn't offend me, or anyone else that I work with for that matter.

The only thing that offends me when I hear on TV or whatever, people referring to a christmas tree as a "holiday" tree. That really gets me I am offended by that, and if I was Jewish, I would be offended if they started referring to Menorahs as "holiday candle holders"

I was baptized Catholic and so was DH. We are both non practicing and didnt get married in church and dont plan to baptize our children

Dh isnt a fan of Xmas but i love it as an overall season. The smells, the parties, the music, the decorations. I thin kt he commericialization of it has actually made it more fun in a weird way

I am not one to be offended by Christmas decorations or music and though I could really care less that someone wishes me a Merry Christmas knowing full well that I am Jewish. But would it be strange to scratch my head wondering why they were playing Christmas music in a kosher deli when most of the clientele is Jewish as they did last night? I was not the only patron in the restaurant who found this rather odd.
