What is your budget for the week for food? I feel like we go through so much and have lots of impulse purchases. When I was living alone, I lived on so little and barely went shopping. Now I feel like we are constantly in need of things.

Re: If it's just you and DH...what is your...?

All told, it's usually about $100. Some weeks it's less, some weeks it's more, but it probably averages to 100.

My "weekly shop" is usually about $75. But by the time we're done picking up the extras (and there are always extras Chat Icon ), it's closer to $100.

Re: If it's just you and DH...what is your...?

we shop for 5 days and then wing it on the weekends. the groceries cost about $70 and then we probably spend $25 on takeout on the weekend - so around $100 in total

Anywhere from $20-50 per week. But we buy most of our meat in bulk at BJs.

anywhere between $60 and $90 depending on whether we have run of the "staples" and need to do a big restock.

our food bill is anywhere from $75.00 to $125 a week depending on what's on sale. We usually stock up on meat when it's a good price.

I'm doing a new method which is helping a bit. I was going weekly and spending a hundred a visit. Now, I go weekly, or so, but for 3 weeks, I'll do only the outer aisles, like frig, meat, produce. This way, it's about $60. Then the other week, I do a whole store shop, using lots of sales and coupons. This is about $125. Honestly, it saves me about $75 a month.

We spend about $200-250 a week, but food is more expensive here. We also eat a lot of seafood.

Re: If it's just you and DH...what is your...?

Ours is about $150. $100 at the supermarket every week, and approximately $100 every other week at costco.

Every Saturday, we make our "menu" for the week.... we decide on all of our dinners for the entire week, and then our grocery list only has the ingredients for those dinners, plus whatever we plan on eating for breakfast and bringing to work for lunch. It helps us save on those unnecessary items! Also, we buy all of our chicken, meat, and shrimp at Costco which saves us money tooChat Icon

confession Chat Icon

we average between $175-$200/week for the 2 of us Chat Icon I know, I know... what the heck are we eating?! well, gourmet cooking is my hobby, and frankly, DH isn't exactly complaining about the benies from that Chat Icon
A lot of exotic cheeses, nuts, tons of produce, and good olive oil.... it all adds up.

I will say that we almost NEVER eat out... We bring lunches & drinks to work, so this really is all we spend.

I'm curious... especially to those who spend under $100/week, is eating out included in that bill, or do you not eat out?

I didn't include going out to eat, just groceries. We go out for dinner usually once a week, sometimes twice and will often pick up lunch on the weekends. But we eat at mostly inexpensive places, so the damage from that is usually around $50 for the week, I'd say, on top of our $100 grocery bill.

DH goes out to lunch every day ( so thats another $50 a week right there) and we usually go out to eat friday and saturday nights so about another hundred right there... so totaly between cooking and eating out, we probably spend about $200 Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If it's just you and DH...what is your...?

I feel the same way. I spend so much money on impulse grocery shopping. I'm now limiting myself to going every other week. And I'll get eggs/milk in between if needed.
eta - I'm actually trying to develop a budget now. I never really set one before.

We spend about £60-£70 a week ($120 - $140) We don't go shopping every week, but we are meat eaters. I try to buy locally and patronise my local Butchers and Green Grocers...

I like to eat well, so I buy what I like really.

Re: If it's just you and DH...what is your...?

Anywhere from $65-$100 a week depending on what I am buying. I don't buy my meat, cold cuts or fruits/veggies at the grocery store bc they are so overpriced, so that is another $15. If we are having company, of course our food bill goes up. I try to keep the pantry well stocked at all times, but then again it is great to have a DH in the food supply industry Chat Icon he is constantly bringing home free samples...

I usually spend about $80/week when I food shop, but then probably spend another $20-$50 on last minute things and take out
