If he's not sleeping he's crying!!!! Is this normal!!!

My DS will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. We know he has stomach issues. We've changed his formula.. changed bottles, changed nipples. nothing seems to work. Not sure what Im looking for but Im at my wits end. I just bounce him around the house and cry sometimes b/c I can't think of anyway to help him. He cries after every bottle and during every bottle. He roots at the bottle while it's in his mouth like he's frustrated about something.
I tried smaller nipples, bigger nipples same result.

Does this ever end and get easier. Id hate to change his formula again. I feel that's hard on their system as well.

Changing too many things, too often is a mistake. You should consult your pediatrician. Is he gassy, constipated, spiting up alot?

Re: If he's not sleeping he's crying!!!! Is this normal!!!

what formula is he on? is he congested? how often does he go to the bathroom? is it loose?

my son was the same way, and was diagnosed with a milk allergy....I would have to walk around with him on my hip, facing outward for him to be comfortable

have you tried to swaddle him? what kind of bottle are you using? how often do you change his formula.

my dr has told me to stay on one formula for at least a week or so to see if it works, before switching.

huggss... he may just be a colic baby.

Gassy. I didn't change anything without my dr. telling me too.

Now he is on Similac Sensitive. He sounds congested after he eats. he goes to the bathroom sometimes once a day today he went twice. It's loose, wet. (dr. said as long as it wasn't hard it was fine thought)

we are using platex drop ins.. went to dr. browns and he hated the small nipple. I changed the formula once when my dr. told me too. He's been on it over a week now with no change.

Have you watched the Happiest Baby on the Block Video or read the book? It really helped me during that time. Swaddling was a lifesavor!

I would take him to a pediatric GI. Especially if he is that uncomfortable.
They may prescribe him nexium and put him on a another formula.

This was my dd too... she was miserable and once we switched formula things were ALOT better... I also agree with the poster that suggested happiest baby on the block. That dvd saved us during DD's colicy phase.

I agree. My Dr told me what people call "colic" is in many cases, a milk allergy. Bring a dirty diaper to the Dr and hav ethem check for traces of blood. If you see it he should go on Nutramigen or Alimentum, if no improvementa fter 1-2 weeks of that then amino acid formula(elecare, neocate or nutramigen AA)

my ds used to do this as well as arching his back while I tried to burp him, having wet burps and crying after burping

these are all signs of Acid Reflux which my son had, as well as a milk protein allergy. I would call the ped Chat Icon

Re: If he's not sleeping he's crying!!!! Is this normal!!!

The tummy trouble started for us around 3 weeks. We wound up changing formulas twice. He's now on Alimentum for milk sensitivity but not allergy. I too tried different bottles, etc. Trying too many things at once isn't good because then you never know what's working and what's not.

I will say this, Dr. Brown bottles have been amazing. I tried them when he was about 3-4 weeks and didn't like them so I kept using my Avent ones. Well, we tried them again at about 8 weeks because he was impossible to burp and was gassy and I am now a believer! Burping him has never been this easy. Dr. Brown has a wide neck bottle, maybe those will be better for him. Good luck, it does get easier.

Chat Icon this made me laugh. Yeah i thought so. Im going to ask again.

Oh and just to answer some other posts. I do swaddle him. But that's not the issue. once he calms down he sleeps fine, the normal 2-3 hours before he wakes up to eat again. Its getting him to calm down to put him to sleep.

thanks ladies!!! keep the suggestions coming!! Chat Icon

Re: If he's not sleeping he's crying!!!! Is this normal!!!

DD started similac sensitive about 2 wks ago. helps with gas but doesn't get rid of it completely. I did notice that once she started it she is now having BM every 2 days but loose and wet. Have you tried putting mylicon in the bottle?

I also had all these expensive bottles and she ended liking the munkin ones they sell at marshalls like 3 bottles for $6
