Ice Skating?
DD is 4 1/2 and recently got invited to her first ice Skating party. DH and I want to take her tomorrow to try it out before RSVPing to see if she likes it. We also have a 2 1/2 year old that wants to do everything her sister does. Do they rent skates for toddlers? We were thinking of doing Bethpage rink.

Re: Ice Skating?
Never gone to Bethpage but Newbridge does. It depends on shoe size. My oldest DS has been skating since last winter when he was 2 but we bought him his own skates. When we were there last year, we were approached by the head of the sksting school bc she wanted to know how old ds was. Whrn i told her 2.5 she frowned at me & was like we don't encourage ice skating until 3.5 bc their ankles can't support it. I thanked her for her input & continued my son.skating.

Ice Skating?
Good to know she's a toddler girl size 7 typically. Guess I could call in the morning.

DS just had his ice skating party a couple of weeks ago. DD is 3 and they had skates her size.

Re: Ice Skating?
DD is 2 and wanted to go ice skating, so I asked for advice from friends of ours whose whole entire family ice skates (oldest daughter used to compete and their son play hockey both locally and nationally on a traveling team).
They said that you can technically put them on the ice that young, but you need to buy them a helmet for safetly. Also, the best thing for them would be to try out a bucket class or something which is when they skate holding a stick that is in a bucket - this gives them a feel for the ice but also gives them support. However, at that age, their ankles are not necessarily strong enough for ice skating so to be incredibly careful because they CAN get hurt pretty easily.

Ice Skating?
Thanks everyone. We took her and she had a blast. The skates they had were a perfect fit. We brought their bicycle helmets with us and held onto the little one at all times. It is a great time and both girls can't wait to go back.
