I really don't get my DH (yes, this is house related)....
All he talked about for years was, "We need a house....have to save for a house...wait until we have a house...," etc. Now, we FINALLY have a house, and he tells me today, "I don't know, this house has just lost its luster already for me." Are you freaking kidding me? First of all, it never had luster to begin with. We bought it knowing that it needed a total update, and second of all, then do somethign about it. Pick up a paint brush, scrape off some wallpaper glue, whatever, just do SOMETHING. He watched my dad do electrical work all day, my mom scrub our kitchen and me paint two rooms.  I'm ready to smack him.

it takes time and patience. we're here over 7 years, and lemme tell ya it's one step at a time (and one argument at a time  )

Sounds like the IDEA of having a house is much more glamorous than the WORK involved with owning a house.
Personally, I love fixing stuff around the house, and have done a lot of it. Not everyone wants to fix stuff, though. Some guys just want to sit and watch TV in their house (that was fixed by someone else... )

I totally understand not liking to fix a house, but ugg, it just annoys me. I'm actually loving every minute of it because this house is OURS. We can do whatever we want, we can change it if we don't like it and we can make it our own. I don't know, I just wish he was happy, and now I'm sad that he's not. But whatever, I guess I should just tell him that he can watch Ava while I work on the house. We're supposed to be sleeping there tonight, but now he doesn't want to

It can all be so overwhelming. I can see both sides of it.
we just had work done (new siding, but little side projects sprouted here and there  ) so for over two weeks my house has been a tornado. Keeping track of who's coming for what, how much do we owe who (and it was all during work hours, so I had to keep confirming stuff with my hubby who organized it all, plus keep track of my kids' school schedules, my own school and work (and I just took an accelerated 2-weekend course, GREAT timing ) so sometimes while things are looking great, we also might wanna run the other way  
I hope that made sense. Everyone says to me "it takes time" boy is that true. hang in there !

Same here! We've been in our house nearly 8 years and I'm STILL nagging DH to finish all the projects he started

Same here! We've been in our house nearly 8 years and I'm STILL nagging DH to finish all the projects he started
I will give my hubby credit, he has done A LOT, and apparently is MUCH more handy than hubbies of friends that have seen things he's done (put down laminate flooring in entire lower level, re-did an entire kitchen top to bottom-smaller kitchen that shares laundry area, but still did it on his own! even drop ceilings) re-sheetrocked all walls of downstairs bathrooms and painted. has painted everything, and lots of faux finishes for me  ) and lots of other little things. But Im still never satisfied
So when the contractors were here for 2 weeks, I talked their ears off, poor guys, and Ive already "booked" A few of them for side work and actually my hubby agreed. so a few more projects are coming up soon. just things that are more time consuming for him alone (sheetrocking, hi-hats, etc.)
does it ever end ?
I just wanna fly away to another planet sometimes.

Oh, totally same here. I can't even list all that he's done - from all the electrical to installing hi-hats in every room and putting up base and crown molding in every room. It does never end.... We just re-did our lower level, DH did all new insulation, sheetrock, etc., but I'm still waiting for him to move on the windows and floors so we can actually use the space downstairs before I'm old and gray and the kids move out.

oh, so youre hubby would totally understand where my hubby's coming from when I tell him "Pfft, work ? work ? youre tired from WORK ? sitting in an office with an HDTV "for your job" in your office ???
I totally bust his chops, but he does work his tail off at work...
but Im sure not eatin bon-bons and watchin oprah at home, thats for sure

Rach my hubby is like that. He regrets buying this house on a daily basis. He is not a handy guy. He doesn't enjoy doing things around the house. He hates gardening and such. He hates the fact that the house consumes many of our weekends. He says it all the time he wishes we had a bought a townhouse or maybe a condo. I understand many of the things that he complains about but in the same respect I feel the same as you.
Initially moving in is very overwhelming, especially when you are trying to get a ton of stuff done before you move in. Give him some time!

I know its not funny but the "luster" part just had me rolling
I can totally relate though, my DH was crazy about buying a big house & I figured he was all excited to do all of the upkeep as well. I remember wishing that we still lived in my townhouse a few months after we bought our house because the townhouse was so beautifully maintained by the management company & I felt like DH didn't even want to mow our lawn.
It took time for us to work out those kinks. Try not to get too frustrated, you guys will work it out. Home Buying and/or renovating can be some of the most stressing times you'll go through.
Just keep working girl-I want more pics!!!!

Maybe once all the BIG projects are finished, he will feel much better about it. I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be to think of all the things to do, some people handle it differently. I can see how frustrating this must be for you though. Let's hope he gets over this phase quickly or you may be forced to be the handy one!

So, luckily, he sucked it up last nigth, we left Ava with my parents and went to the house. By 1am, we had our entire bedroom primed, and the trim in Ava's room painted. And, gasp, he actually enjoyed painting! I kept telling him that even though it could be stressful, if we just have fun with it and enjoy the fact that its all ours, it would be a lot better. So, it ended up being good. Thank god because I was ready to punch him! He also admitted that he had gotten used to moving around over the last 10 years. We've been together for almost 8 years, and in that time we've moved almost ten times. So, he's having a hard time with the idea of being tied to one place. On a side note, I asked him if he felt that way when we got married Thankfully he was smart enough to say no
