I officially have gestational diabetes

Ugh, I'm so depressed about it, but what can I do? I have no choice other than to deal with it. I thank goodness that it is something manageable and not immediately life-threatening.

My OB referred me to a diabetic counselor who I have to meet with after taking some classes. I work in the city but the appts and classes are all in Great Neck (as is my OB), so it will be a pain with my work schedule, but I have no other choice so I'm just going to suck it up.

First class is tomorrow evening.

I'm so sorry sweetie Keep trying to remember that it's not your fault -- it just HAPPENS and it has nothing to do with anything you did. And your baby girl will be PERFECT because you're going to get the care you need for her.

Wish I were still around... I grew up walking distance from your OB and my dad still lives near there. I'd come meet you each and every time if I could, just to be there for you! Lots of love & hang in there!!! The time will fly by (and you may go a little early now, too, so it'll be even sooner!)

It's not the end of the world. I have had diabetes from the get go of the pregnancy, and honestly, there are worse things out there! It just seems like a terrible diagnosis and doom & gloom..but it doesn't have to be at all.

Just follow what your counselor tells you, follow a stricter diet plan, and check your blood sugars several times a day.

Are you being put on insulin or just diet controlled? If they give you insulin, it's not so bad...the injection is more mind over matter than anything else.

On a daily basis I prick my skin or inject myself 8x a day....you get used to it!

I am sosorry, it is manageable and as long as you follow what the dr says you will do great.

Just take it one day at a time. I was diagnosed with it about 4-5 weeks ago and I've found some freebie food to snack on (0 g/carbs) and some edible food for snacks.

I agree, though, going to the nutrionist on top of the OB appts gets annoying!! The positive is that you will now see your baby on a weekly basis via sonograms!

Hang in there and if you need any food ideas, let me know. I've tried to not do a monotonous menu each day, so I don't get tired of the same food.

They did not say anything about having to take insulin as yet - just the referral to the diabetic counselor. So I'm guessing the approach will be to modify my diet and try to control things from there.

I know it's not the end of the world by any stretch, but of course every woman hopes for a complication-free pregnancy and now I don't have one anymore.

Im so sorry. I agree with all of the other girls. Dont blame yourself. This is not your fault, and you will take it day by day and everything will work. Hang in there!!

aww sorry! i know someone who is pregnant right now with gd and she is dealing with it. she said it's not that bad once you get control of it.

My dreamboat is diabetic, and it's really not bad once you know more about what it entails. If you have any diabetic-related questions, feel free to ask! Though I didn't have gestational diabetes, I 100% understand being upset about diabetes .

They wont start with insulin, the start with diet controlled then if they need to they go to oral meds... and the last resort is insulin...so dont even think about that yet
