I NEED to get over this!!!
Ladies this is a problem. I am PETRIFIED to be alone at night in my apt. My DH went upstate again and he will be there til Sun night and so i have to arrange to sleep out all those nights (or get someone to sleep here). I am absolutely scared stiff to be alone. I hate it!

I'm totally the same way.  I find that if I blast the AC and put the TV or music on I can fall asleep. Do you have a dog/cat? Having our new pup usually makes me feel better too.

I'm that way sometimes - if I go to sleep watching a movie that helps. After I check all the scary places in the apt. first, while carrying a weapon (like a tennis racket) that is!

I'm the same! My DH went away this weekend I had to sleep over my mothers ..It is just so annoying ! We have a house and our bedroom is upstairs..I dont like it up there alone...he laughs and says just put the alarm on! NO thanks going to my moms.

I feel your pain! My hubby works nights.
When we first got married and moved into our house I did not sleep at all!
I would stay up in the living room watching TV and dozing off on the couch until daybreak- then once the sun was up I'd go in the bedroom.
(Like having the sun up made it ok to sleep in the bed..  )
The only thing that got me over it was sheer exhaustion- eventually I had to start getting up for work and not sleeping wasn't cutting it.
I find that leaving the TV on low all night long helps- it makes some light and noise in the room- yet is quiet enough so I can hear any suspicious noises. I also sleep with my cell phone in the bedroom just in case- and the bedroom door locked.
I know it stinks!

yup im with u....dh works 24hr shifts and im alone at times....i usually fall asleep to the tv but very low and the ac is off (so i sweat to death) bc i want to hear everything going on...my friends think im nuts...but i try to tell mysefl to give it up already but it never works....i hope it goes away with time
I do the same thing- NO AC- and TV on low. I need to sleep with one ear open for suspect noises!!!

I am guilty of the same thing! I hate to be alone overnight. I don't even like being home alone until midnight when JT gets home. I find that if I turn on ALL the lights in the house, it helps. When that used to fail, I'd sleep at my mom's house. Now we live there, so I sleep much better I'm dreading what it'll be like once we have a house in a few months. Although, it's gotten better because technically, I'm not alone, I do have Ava and knowing that it's my job to be the brave one and protect HER helps.

I am the same way. DH went away for 2 nights and I stayed with my inlaws. I am such a chicken when hes not around at night.

wow so funny that you posted this - i still live at home and my parents went to Niagara for the past two nights. I made FH sleep over BOTH nights on the floor bc i have a twin LOL and then I even stayed home from work today bc FH didnt have work until 12 so i knew i could never wake him up at 5:30 when i go in 
damn i was hoping this was going to be something i got over when i moved out but looks like i am not the only one!

im the same way! 2 nights a week DH works until 2am and i cant sleep until he gets home! i just stay in our bedroom cause i dont want to be in the living room alone! thats why on those nights i hang out with friends or go to my parents house! i dont know what i would do if he had to go away overnight!!!

Why are you so scared?
I get a little spooked sometimes, but to sleep out everytime your dh is away?!!?
I think maybe you need to just suck it up and do it once and then it will be easier.

I love being alone. Maybe its because I lived on my own for 10 years before I even met DH.
I would try to desensitize yourself to this fear and spend some time alone with something to keep you busy.

I have the same problem too. Honestly, I have given up trying to change and if DH isn't going to be home, I go and sleep at my parents. 
I am not as scared in my co-op because I live on a high floor in a high rise with a doorman. But still, I can't sleep by myself

You'll get used to it. I hated it at first too. Try to sleep w/ the tv on or a hallway light that helps me. Don't you live in a condo? Aren't there people upstairs/downstairs?? I feel better knowing my neighbors are right upstairs.

This sounds crazy to me. Did something happen to you that you are scared? Have you never lived alone?
My dh works nights & even though thoughts can run through my head at times, I would never sleep out because I'm scared.
Aren't we all grown women here? There comes a point where you have to live your life & not let fear control you

wow, harsh, I don;t think it has anything to do with being a grown woman, everyone has fears and this is a fear of MANY people.
ETA- I know a HUGE marine who is 40 years old and is deathly afraid of spiders, has nothingto do with being a grown up.
