I NEED HELP!!!!
Sooooo, today is our 3 year anniversary. Yay, right? Well somewhat. DH and I are one our way to a nice dinner and I get a call . It is my RE...hmmm??? I answer and it goes something like this. Your test results came back. All of your tests came back normal. My ovary assessment report cme back extra good! Great! Now to DH's SA. The long and short is his count is 5 million, and dr. said it should be around 20 million. And with that count it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get pregnant naturally. Now dont get me wrong, I am rather religious and believe strongly in prayer, faith and miracles but i cant help but being totally depressed and devastated. On top of that i'm trying to be strong bc DH feels horrible and inadequate. I havent even been able to cry! Now DH says he might have compromised the integrity of the test bc "he took care of business" yesterday  even when he knew he shouldnt. SO he had a "difficult time" today and "not much came out." Im soooo emotional right now and have nobody to talk to!!! Sorry sooo long, im just so lost right now.

 I don't want this to sound harsh, but I would not really put a lot of thought into the fact that he may have"compromised the integrity of the test." He may be reaching for excuses since I'm sure he feels horrible right now. Regardless don't bother getting mad at him. The numbers are off either way. This truly s u c k s, it does, but at least you are now getting answers and can chart a plan rather than continuing to be disappointed. Right now you are going to have to continue with your strong faith, but also put your faith in your doctors and modern medicine. Happy Anniversary and lots of lots of  and lots of

thank you very much!! i personally dont really think what DH did had much of an affect but he keeps pushing it. Im trying to be realisitic and reading up about IUI and IVF bc RE mentioned it on the phone. He wont even discuss or look at it bc he still thinks that he "messed up" and there is still a natural chance. I just dont want to waste anymore time especially since i should get AF within the next week and will be getting a plan together for this cycle. i need him to on board with me.

First of all
Second - dont worry too much - male IF has a good chance of improving. The first thing i would suggest is have DH do another SA - this time using the correct guidlelines so you definately know its accurate. Alot of RE's do 2 SA tests to get an accurate idea b/c the results do flucuate.
If the results are still low - then get DH an appt with a urologist. They will do bloodwork and an exam and determine if the problem is hormonal or physcial, either of which is treatable with either medicine or surgery and DH will have a great chance of being back in the "normal" range.
My DH went from ZERO sperm to normal counts in 3 months. I also have DH on a special supplement regime that is supposed to help.

first off
as far as ur dh compromsing the intergrity of the test - yes i do believe it to be true if he "took care of buisness " the day b4 the test
Dh count is pretty high normally. It was 32 million after wash when i got pregnant the first time aorund with an IUI. He didnt do anything to compromise the test.
When we started trying again he "forgot" he wasnt supposed to take care of buisness the day b4 our iui and his numbers were about 10million.
That month was a bust - didnt work out.
Our next month he didnt take care of buisness the day b4 our iui was scheduled and his numbers jumped up back to 31 million post wash.
so yes it does affect the numbers. The paperwork on the speciman cup specifically says no ejaculation at least 3 days prior to giving a sample

my DH has had his count range from 3 million to 28 million when we've done IUI's and the dr always reminds us of a very important fact - It takes ONE sperm to get you pregnant. Don't discount that and think that just because his count is 'low' this time that its impossible to get pregnant. I'm sure that's putting even more pressure on your DH as well.
And i happen to agree with him that if he took care of business the day before, it certainly could throw off the count when he had the test done.
I would definitely recommend getting another SA done, and then discuss with your dr what you should do from there
don't be so discouraged - you're by no means in a bad place!

So, DH called dr. today and told him what he did...lol. The dr. said that the test is invalid and DH must do it again. I am cautiously optimistic. I guess there must be some hope if dr. is making him do it again??

Yes it actually really does affect the test - at least for total counts so optimism is great and can't hurt!
That said - there are also a LOT of things you can do to increase sperm count if they are still low so a low count does not mean the "end of things" anyway - just information for a new approach!!

soooo, DH is going tomorrow. Im so antsy. Im trying to be positive and think it will change but at the same time trying to be realistic. All that wrapped up in the fact that im in the 2WW and AF is do sometime btw 8/4 and 8/9 and we are leaving for mexico on sat.!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!

I am so sorry about this. Hopefully the retest will show different results but if not like the other posters said there are things your DH can do to improve the count.
