Typically I think US should stay out of other areas and issues. But not this. I'm on board with intervention.
If we had to deal with the shit those poor people in Syria have to deal with - you bet your butt I would be wanting some other country to intervene.
I'm not always confident in our govt - admittedly. But I am confident in our armed services who are highly trained. Whether its in battle or obtaining intel.
. I think of those navy seals every single day who went in on that mission and killed Osama. I'm about the most peaceful person ever, but we have a military for a reason and it's not just to protect us. They exist for the greater good of the world.
I think I'm on board, but then I start thinking horrible crazy thoughts like:
If we intervene will we need to buy gas masks?
Will they hit us with a dirty bomb?
How many sleeper cells are currently living in the US, and when will act once given the go-ahead from overseas?
I know this is so over the top crazy to even think these thoughts, but ever since I had my son, I'm more fearful.
I dont think its so crazy and far fetched at all, honestly.
I agree. I also have same fears. I guess the only thing that I put faith into is that there's so much stuff going on behind the scenes.. Lots of things our govt is aware of here and abroad that we don't have any knowledge of. I'm sure they have same concerns and systems put in place.
But overall, right there with you.

Honestly, what are we going to do to change the people and the government in this area? Time and time again we have stepped in and have paid the price using billions upon billions of our own dollars that could be used on countless Americans that are suffering and have paid the price with our soldiers lives. After this many years and the money and losing lives, what has changed over there? You can't change crazy. I feel horrible for what is going on over there, I do and it sucks but if we get involved nothing is going to change. Nothing.

It's true, their (the rebels, terrorists and corrupt govts) way of thinking is so ingrained in them, we can't change crazy. I agree, no matter what we do, it's like weeds. You get rid of one and another pops up and they are never really gone. It is one thing to go to war, it is another to go to war with a civilized nation/government, it is quite another to go to war with people who have no regard for human life whatsoever.

Of course I am sorry for their people who are murdered. But I don't want to have to live in fear of retaliation b/c we have to go attempt to rescue/protect people on their own land.

I wonder the same thing, why does it ALWAYS have to be us. Why does it ALWAYS fall on us to fix the entire world. Just ONCE I want another major power to step up. We only come out looking like the bad guy and it only pisses off the terrorist factions even more, which in turn I feel sets us up for more attacks.

Well China and Russia will be against us since they provide money to Syria so do we REALLY want to piss them off? We have no real support in this. We need to just stop and wait. It is sad, it is heartbreaking, and it is horrible what happened and is happening, but it is THEIR problem. It will not change if we go there. What are we going to do exactly? What will we do when we are in WW3 and we have our own attacks here at home? We need to sit this one out.

I kind of feel the same way.
I'm all for them having intelligence to track what is going on over there and especially here in our own backyard.
Also security as much as possible to keep people safe.
However, I don't even want to imagine the crazy that could go off if we go into there now with weapons.
What PPs posted already does not sound at all beyond the realm of possibility.
I sometimes want to stick my head in the sand and just be totally unaware of what is happening in the rest of the world.
I'm just being honest.
