I have to put stuff on Craigslist and I'm afraid!

I have to have these people come to the house. It's my orchids and a very heavy, non portable orchidarium and credenza that I'll be selling. It needs to be inspected put-together, not once I take it apart. It's in my living room.

My last approach before posting it on Craigslist is to try to post an ad on a Orchid related website, but it has to be a local pickup since I can't ship glass. Not counting on that working out.

All the worst case scenarios are popping in my head... Even if DH is there, people could be coming into my home to case the place out, right? We have a dog but he's a mush and doesn't bark. We don't have a garage to put it in, although now that I think about it, maybe I should put it in the basement.

What would you do, do you think I'm being paranoid? There's nothing else I can do to protect us, can I. Either take it apart and put it in the basement (a few hour's work) or just hope I don't get crazies coming into the house...?

I have no idea what the heck your selling but could you possibly put it together then take it to a public parking lot and have everyone come look at it all on the same day, so there not coming to your house? we do this when ever we sell a car.

I don't know... I think you'll be OK.

I think scammers/people up to no good would be more inclined to case someone's house if they were selling a flat screen or something.

Did you try selling on here? Jen (JldDolphin) doesn't want them?

Price it right so that "inspection" isn't a big issue. Deliver it for free to a public place (where you can take it out of your car and put it into theirs). If it's a big issue about whether or not it "works" or not, then just tell them they have 24 hours to tell you they want to return it ONLY if it doesn't work.

I wouldn't want strangers coming into my home.

we sold a table and chairs once on craigslist - and i didnt want the people coming in our apartment so DH set it up outside before they arrived....it ended up being a woman and her daughter - they were really sweet and really wanted the table - but better safe than sorry

I don't blame you for being scared, I would be nervous too. I have some stuff I'd like to put up but have been debating for similar reasons. So, basically, I am no help.

I too don't use Craigslist for this reason. When I move, I do plan to list b/c I will sell from my old house and won't be living there anymore so I won't care who comes then. But yes, I am not a fan of this stuff either. No advice, just can relate to what you wrote~!

i am actually glad you posted this b/c I have a car to sell and was willing to donate it b/c I dont want strangers off there coming to my house! i like the parking lot idea!

This is my BIGGEST concern about Craigslist. I listed all the things I wanted to sell on here first, and everything went. I know that there's crazies on here, too ( ), but at least I "knew" those who bought stuff.
