I HATE VERIZON
We just bought a brand new Dell computer. Our download speed is STILL the same... 6,000mbps when it's supposted to be 20,000mbps. The tech tells me that it's my computer. I should call Dell and have them send me a new one!
I'm calling optimum today.

Want to prove it? Have a friend come over with her laptop. You will get the same speed.
If Verizon can't give you the 20,000 download speed, i'd drop them and go with Optimum + boost if you want super fast speed.

I've been on the phone with tech support for many many times. Nobody can figure it out. They've changed the duplex speeds, ran remote access, you name it...nothing works.

If another PC gets the proper speed, it *could* be your PC. That's actually the only explanation. I would still see if you could get a friend with a laptop to test it out. If two laptops get 20Mb, and you're getting 6Mb, switching to cable isn't going to solve anything. It could be anti-virus software, it could be Windows, could be your network card, device drivers, etc.

Wow. Not sure what to say then. 
I think there are utilities out there that can adjust the frame size of your TCP/IP settings that may improve overall internet speeds.
I used one of the utilities to troubleshoot a speed problem I was getting with my cellphone modem. But my cellphone modem is much slower than Verizon FIOS so I am not sure if this would work.
I would do a google search and see if other people are having the same problem. Crappy situation indeed.

I have Verizon as well. From their crappy service to their pushy sales ploys re Fios, and their disorganization, I hate them. Always did.

The last computer that we had, had the same problems.
That happens more often than you would think. "Brand new" doesn't mean "perfect". I obviously can't tell from here if it is the card or not, but it is a possibility. I've seen several cards (network, video, sound, etc) that didn't work, even though they were brand new. It may be something as simple as not having the proper drivers for the card. Updating the network drivers may fix the problem.

You know I remember the last time you posted this thread complaining about their speed.
For what it's worth, I get over 11,000 on my Optimum cable. And that is WITHOUT boost. I am sure if I added boost it would be well over 20,000.
I have had so many issues with Verizon in the past over other stuff, I would never get their FIOS just out of principle.

My friend has the boost and his internet is lightning fast.
Is it possible to just switch from verizon internet to optimum internet? I really love the FIOS cable. It has so much more for my son.

FYI, there is NO company in existence that everyone likes. For every person that hates a company, you'll find more that either like it, or don't have a problem with it. You'll find just as many complaints about Cablevision service, support, speed, reliability, etc. I wouldn't switch until you figure out what the problem is, since switching Internet providers may not fix the problem. Then you'll still have the problem, and you'll be paying more (since you unbundled the package deal).
I have no vested interest in either company, so I personally don't care who you give your money to, but I don't want to see you throw money at a problem when it may not be the right solution.
