I had my amnio today...
...well thats over and done with. All went well. Les-ward or Ed-lie looks good. Im not going to lie - the needle hurt. I winced like a baby myself. Neither DH nor I looked at the needle at all - just the monitor.
I finally asked about the AFP results that I had held til I came into the office and again, my chances decreased as my numbers went from 1 in 318 to 1 in 354-ish (can't remember the exact number). I am well within the normal range for my age. We will wait about a week to 10 days for the results.
Oh and we know what we are having. The doc and the nurse simultaneously said "Its a (insert gender here)" when we asked. But we decided that we will keep it all under lock and key until we get the definitive results next week. I am in such awe of this child.

Im going with my heart on this one and my heart tells me all will be fine. When I first saw the heartbeat back in January, it had been on my father's birthday - making me believe that HE was protecting this baby. So, this morning when I got dressed, I put on Dad's army dog tag (which I also had sewn into my wedding dress) as a bit of a good luck charm.
Wham bam thank you doc, it was fast and the baby cooperated.

This post brought tears to my eyes. This precious baby will be just fine, and will be blessed with many people who love him/her, including your Dad.
