I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
So far, I don't like the ride...
went to the lab for CD3 testing. I also have a script for the Jewish Panel Genetic blood work.
Great, I go there..they can't draw on a Saturday because of the religious aspect of sending the Jewish panel in. So they can't do any draw today because the insurance company won't pay to draw twice according to the plebotomist/person I spoke to at the lab. Only M-Th, not Friday or Saturday..
Now I have to wait for my next CD3 testing. Another month.
Are you friggin kidding me?
I need this like I need a whole in my head!

Oh you poor thing. I know how overwhelming this all is, especially starting off with the tests. Would going Monday be too late? Maybe you can call the RE's office Monday and ask them what they prefer you do. So sorry.

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
Oh no.... I would definitely ask them if that panel is something that has to be done on CD 3 or if it can be done anytime. I know alot of our genetic stuff was done on our first visit to the RE, and another was done on the day I went in for the water sono, neither of which was a day 3.
That is so frustrating!!!!! Hopefully they won't make you wait an entire cycle for that...
For the CD 3 stuff, definitely talk to the RE because I was once drawn on day 2 and once on day 4 and they said that was o.k.

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
They can't draw the Jewish Panel at another time? It doesn't have to be on CD3.
Besides which, I'm over that. There should be no religious connection to drawing that panel on a Saturday. It's not being done for religious purposes. Honestly, I would have totally argued that and not left until they drew for it.

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
no way! Go back and get your CD3 labs. You can get the other thing another time. I have never heard of insurance limiting how many times you get stuck. Thats ridiculous.
Do not waste a month!!!!

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
Def. go back!! CD3 b/w is different from the genetic panel and would also be billed differently for insurance.
CD3 has nothing to do with genetics!
Good luck!!

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
I agree - I would go back as well... and tell them to omit those panels and you'll bring back a new prescription from your dr at a later date... THAT aspect of it shouldn't have to be done on CD3... besides which, that whole thing is ridiculous...

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
well now the lab is closed. I was told I can go to a Duane Reade and get it done. Wonder if I can get that done locally.
I thought it was ridiculous.

I should have just called my insurance company..I'm so pizzed.
Now I'm looking everywhere for a place that will draw now.
It doesn't look good. Labcorp doesn't have late hrs on Saturday.

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
Insurance company is closed..Holiday weekend.
I did argue with her. She would have done it for the CD3 but warned me that it would be out of pocket for the genetic draw since the insurance company wouldn't pay for two draws.
The ICD9 code was the same on the script.
I'm so bummed. If they screwed me up then I wil tell the insurance company that they need to fix this big time.
I just called the emergency line at my doctors (regular doc) in hopes that he had some other ideas where I could get a blood draw today. I guess I could go to the ER but it's not an "emergency" and I don't think it's appropriate.

instead of the emergency room, do you have a "First Med" type of place near you? they accept walkins and would probably do it for you
I'm sorry this happened to you, just so you know if something doesn't seem right ALWAYS question it. Unfortunately most of us have learned to become the biggest advocates for ourselves on this IF journey. I hope you're able to get something done today and not have to wait until next cycle

Re: I Guess I Just got on This Rollercoaster
My doc called me back and recommended I call the REs office since they are always doing something in the office..
I called NSUH emergency line and Dr. Cohen called me back asap. (Nice to know they do this). He said CD4 is ok and he will be in the office tomorrow and I should come in at 9am to get the blood done.
What a guy!!!!!
I may switch to him! Knight in shining armor thing..
Anyway, he was blown away that I couldn't get my blood drawn today and also what I told him about the Jewish Panel. He said, we will address it when I see him Labcorp wise. He sounded a bit annoyed at them too.
So, the month is saved. I knew it didn't sound right but what the heck do I know?
I really appreciate you all giving me some excellent advice. You are all my lucky charms.

I'm still fuming for you over that whole thing! I never heard anything that ridiculous before!
Anyway I'm glad it all worked out with the CD3 bloodwork. Right now that's the most important thing to get out of the way.

me too. that woman sounded so freakin confident about it. When I called before I came I was asking to make sure they drew for what I needed and before I could get the words out of my mouth she said yes, we draw for everything. So I went..
Went to NS today and the phlebotomist took I think 9 vials. 4 for hormone and 5 for the jewish panel.
She told me to drink juice..
I saw Dr. Cohen but he didn't acknowledge me..the nurse spoke to him about me though.
I'm calling my insurance company tuesday and telling them. I'm also going to see if North Shore Core labs is participating..I hate Labcorp and the nurse there wasn't too thrilled with them either.

Glad it worked out.
I've been seeing Dr. Cohen for my 3 IUI's and now my IVF cycle and I really like him.
He is really nice and calm and makes me feel comfortable.
