I feel like a terrible mother...
I was on the bed with my daughter just about to blow dry her (20 pieces) of hair when she leaned over to the side and fell of the bed. I thought she was far enough away from the side that she was safe even if she decided to roll from a sitting position and aside from that I thought that being I was RIGHT THERE I wouldnt have to worry about anything. I tried to get her in (what felt like) slow motion and she was in fast forward. She fell right on her face and belly and started screaming. She had blood coming out of her mouth and I was so nervous. I brought her to Good Sam hospital, she stayed there for about 3 hours and they said everything was ok...nothing broken, just a cut by her top gum which was the cause of the bleeding. I think that she might end up with a little bruise on her right cheek. I just feel so terrible right now, I cried the whole time at the hospital and feel so horrible. I can't believe I was the cause of her getting hurt when I'm the one who is so paranoid when she's in other peoples care...I never thought I'd be the person she'd get hurt with

it happens...thank god she's ok.
Don't feel guilty. as moms we spend MOST of the time with them so of course it's more likely they will get hurt with us.

Re: I feel like a terrible mother...
Try not to be so hard on yourself! You're obviously a GREAT mom because you feel so badly about it! I felt so bad the first time I accidentally made my son cry out in pain after cutting his beautiful little finger with the nail clipper... it KILLED me that I caused him pain. So, I know how you feel... just try to forgive yourself. That's why they're called "accidents", right?

Re: I feel like a terrible mother...
my dd fell off the bed at 5 months, in my husband care...I almost killed him. I was in the next room too, he turned his back for a second and she rolled right off the edge...she was fine, more scared and surprised. We both felt so awful...i guess what made us feel a bit better was that it pretty much happens to almost everyone!

Re: I feel like a terrible mother...
Don't beat yourself up. It could happen to anyone. I have a scar on my chin from falling at 6 months when my Mom was right there and I was fine. Of course I can't remember it happening.

Re: I feel like a terrible mother...
I know SOO many people this happened to . And quite honestly, I'm holding my breath for the day it happens to me bc I know sooner or later she is going to have an accident of some sort, and chances are, it will be with me since I am with her most of the time.
Don't beat yourself up too much. It certainly doesn't make you a bad mother at all!

This happened to DD at about the same age. I can't even tell you how many times DS has fallen and hit his face. It happens. Don't beat yourself up.

Re: I feel like a terrible mother...
You are not a horrible mom. Unfortunately it happens. . Last week we forgot to snap DS #2 into the rock and play sleeper when we went to pupt DS #1 to bed. Well he literally propelled himself out of thre onto our hardwood floor. He ladnded on his side, but he was ok. I was devastated and felt horrible. WE are mommies and we just don't want anything to happen to them ever and when/if it does I think we hurt more.
