i feel like a horrible new mommy...

i am pretty sure i gave my 6wk old DD my cold. i am sooooooooo upset and feel like a horrible mother. we are going to the ped to check her out. the poor girl is stuffy. i tried to not kiss her (which was torture) or breathe her direction but she got it anyway. i feel sooooo bad.

You are NOT a horrible mother. My DD was 4 weeks old when I passed my cold to her. You cant help it! I know how horrible you feel seeing her suffer but know that it happens to us all and you are NOT a bad mommy!

You are not a bad mommy by any means!!! You did what you could to try to keep the germs away from her, but you are her mother, and she NEEDS you- she needs to be held by you and needs you to talk to her. Trust me, that's more important than ending up with a little cold! The way I view it, as heartbreaking as it is to see your little one suffer (my son just got over his first cold), I'd rather they get these minor illnesses when they are little- too little to remember, and then they build up their immune systems from an early age so they will be healthier when they're older. Don't beat yourself up- it's not like you gave her the black plague or anything!! Helps to keep things in perspective! I hope she feels better soon!!

thanks ladies, i feel so bad! i know that she will get sick from time to time but i can't help but feel horrible.

just have to saline her nose and have her sleep on an incline. thanks for calming a neurotic new mom!

Chances are it's not even a cold!!!! Most newborns have congestion, it's totally NORMAL!!!! I thought mine was sick too, and I posted here about it and tell other mommies the same thing! More than likely it's just all that extra fluid they come to us with!! My older Greek pediatrician just looked at my sympathetically and said "Is no cold. Think about it, he been swimming in dere for 9 months. Like a fich."
