Re: I Failed
I think you are having the same exact pregnancy I had! First, the fragile X worry (what happened when you went to the genetic counselor, BTW?) and now GD. I had it and cried for about 3 weeks until I figured it out. At first I was sad that I couldn't eat what I wanted (I found out on christmas eve, doesnt' that stink!) and worried about the effect on the baby. The first couple of weeks my numbers were all over the place and I was so scared I needed insulin. I was already overwhelmed by the diet and testing blood sugar, I didn't want to deal with anything else. Just after I went to the endocrinologist (about 3 weeks after being diagnosed), things fell into place. I figured out what worked for my body and that was key. It is trial and error so be patient. The nutritionist will give you a start but what works for one person may not work for another. By the end of my pregnancy, I was a pro and I did not feel all that deprived. I found ways to get in my sweets (no sugar added ice cream, regular cheesecake!) and my DD was born at 7lbs and 2oz and perfectly healthy. Its totally overwhelming now but it will be ok!!!

Jodi - you are NOT kidding!!! We really are!!!
The GC went well, she explained it all to me very clearly and everything she said made sense. I could pass a lower number or a higher number - but i can't skip brackets (i'm in the first bracket, so i can pass the pre-mutation thing - not the full mutation, it's just not possible)...
The whole GD thing is just a lot to handle. I've been tested for regular diabetes (since i was 20, every year) as everyone in my family, except my brother has it.
I don't know why i'm so upset about it. As silly as it sounds - i feel like a failure, that it's my fault. i KNOW full well it's not...but i can't help it.
I know i'll learn what works for me and what doesn't....just the thought of checking my blood every day scares me - i'm petrified of needles....so there's that too...
one of my most favorite things in the universe and quite frankly, the ONLY thing i'm craving is pasta and that goes away....so that too...

Glad the GC went well! I totally get it! I am a major food person so I was so upset. The 3 weeks or so not only helped me get stable but also made me see that I was not destined to a pregnancy of vegetables and cheese. I found ways to fulfill my cravings so I was satisfied. Plus, my cravings for carbs definitely decreased once I had it under control. You will be able to have pasta. My blood sugars would be great after a pasta meal I would make. I would just use Barilla plus, measure my serving, and have lots of veggies and protein with it. Once the shock wears off and you adjust, you will do great!!

see - that's one of my MAJOR concerns. I hate the taste of ALL veggies - with the exception of corn - which technically isn't a veggie... I literally cannot stomach the taste of others... Fruit - i can do - i like a lot of fruits...but veggies...blech...
