I DID IT - NYC MARATHON!
I RAN THE NYC MARATHON!!! Woohoo!!!! This was my first marathon and omg it was an amazing experience!
I think I smiled the entire race because of all the spectator support and people shouting my name for 26.2 miles! Not only spectators but there were bands, choirs, bagpipes, and just so many smiling faces, people slapping your hands, runners dressed up in costumes, funny signs, etc, that made this such a fun race. I also had my husband, family and 15 friends waiting for me in one or more places along the route! I saw all of them and even got to hug some friends and kissed DH twice!
I ran this for charity in memory of my G-ma who I lost to cancer and raised over $7600 for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment. Crossing that finish line was such a feeling of euphoria that no words can ever describe. I hugged my friend Lori that I ran the whole race with and we balled our eyes out. It was such an amazing journey, I get teary eyed just thinking about it.
The training was brutal but worth it. As some of you may know I suffered a minor stress fracture in my foot 5 weeks ago and had to take a lot of time off. However I was still able to make my goal and finished in 4:30:04! Out of 43,000 runners, I placed 25,773...lol! I was really just happy to finish and loved it so much that I think I will do it again next year! Haha! Oh and my foot held up and feels ok!
Here are a few pics my friend sent me. This is at mile 23, where I saw all my running friends and the pretty signs they made for me! (PS - mile 23-26 were the hardest but somehow I am still smiling!)
Back at the hotel with my medal! (My charity gave me a hotel in the city for 2 nights for raising over $5K!)

Thx girls! Although I used to be pretty athletic, I used to hate running! The furthest I would go is 2-3 miles but one day I got a wild hair up my a$$ and trained for a half marathon! Now after 4 half marathons I went for the full and it was really awesome and not as hard as I thought it would be!!!

Half marathons are wonderful! Very do-able! This was definitely hard but really really worth it!

how did your training work? i have my first 5k in two weeks and don't really know what i'm doing... just running it for fun  but would love to train for something serious, like a half, for next year.

Great job Jenna!! I'm not sure how you were smiling at mile 23 AND had your arms up! LOL
I'm glad that you had a great time! It truly is an amazing experience! The running community is fabulous...but there is something about a marathon that makes it even better - the conversations the camaraderie...etc
