Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
OH yes, I thought of something that might help you. Learning the tired signs...for instance, the minute Noah starts to rub his eyes....he goes into his bed for a sleep. We started this at 10 months and we still look for this sign everyday...
Hope that helps!!

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
I do look for the signs - that's what is so frustrating. I feel like I really catch him before he is overtired . I try not to keep him up for more then an hour and a half bc then I know he will go psychotic on me.
And, I just feel so bad bc I know he is so tired and he just fights it. The best is now he is becoming violent against me. He will pinch my throat and wack me in the face. Like I am not doing a good enough job of helping him to sleep.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
where do you put him down to nap?
DS never napped in his crib. When he was an infant he would nap in his swing or glider and now in his high chair (peg perego) reclined. Ds must have a soft blankie by his face and by his fingers to rub in order to fall asleep. Some times he is so overtired, I will just put him down, give him his blankie, paci and let him cio. Within 5 minutes he is out
He will only sleep in his crib at night....

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
He was never napping in anything that I have - the swing, bouncy, newborn to toddler rocker, glider. Nothing. He won't even sleep in his crib (which makes me nervous for when we get him out of the bassinet)
Right now, he only naps either in his bassinet, the stroller, or my arms.

So are you noticing anything like rubbing his eyes, pulling his ears, scratching his face?? Those are sure signs of exhaustion.

He really just yawns - and occassionally he will rub his eyes. But, at this point when he shows these signs I have already been rocking him for 10+ minutes.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
It doesn't seem DD is as bad as Jack, but she has her moments! It took over a week of letting her cry in the swing (we gave her a few minutes more in it each day) for her to get used to it. She still doesn't seem to like the bouncy seat (I'm wondering if I should try another one?). But at least I can get a break once in awhile now with the swing. I HATED putting her in the swing while she cried, but my exhaustion won out (ontop of having another severe rash on my c/s incision that won't go away ). I really had not choice when the rash was so bad and I had to have a free hand to put some lotion on

UGH, I don't know what will work but I feel for you. What I would do is rock Justin in his stroller, put him in the bouncy, rock him in his co-sleeper or pack & play (like literally put him in, stick in his pacifier and rock it) What helped me was giving him a burp cloth and he would hug it or rub it against his face and sooth himself. Whatever works....

I do try rocking him in those things - he flips out Sometimes that he is freaking so much when I am rocking him that I literally have to almost jump up and down to get him to calm down. That's a nice visual right?! LOL.
Keep your fingers crossed. I just put him down. Let's see how long this lasts for.
Maybe I'll try giving him a Lovey. I have about 100 of them.

You've heard me sing....that would just give him nightmares.
By the way, he already woke up once - I now just put him in his crib with the mobile on. If I rock him anymore I may get seasick.

Oh no...guess he didn't fall asleep on the way home in the car.
Only thing that ever worked for my boys was the swing. That was IT!!

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
What i do is swaddle DS after his bottle he naps for like 2-3 hours that way. I also put him on his belly and he sucks his thumb and goes right to sleep. I only do the belly thing for naps and i watch him closely like every 30 minutes.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
Well I figured out Noahs schedule. He eats and literally an hour later, sometimes 1 and 1/2 he starts getting tired. During that hour-to hour and a half I WEAR him out. I play hardcore, lots of laughing, faces, toys etc.
then at the hour or so mark, I pop the pacifier in his mouth. Sometimes his eyes will instantly close. So I know he's ready.
But he will fight it.
Most time sI have to rock him in a certain position and when his eyes start to close, I swaddle him and put him in the swong with it on, or the crib with the mobile and 80% of the time we get a nap.
to you!

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
DS went through a phase like this when I started putting him in his cribs for naps as well. At first it was hard. I would let him cry for a few minutes, pick him up and comfort him or try to comfort him in his crib but eventually he would fall asleep. At first he would only sleep for a few minutes and now he will sleep for over an hr in his crib for naps.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
Do you put him down wiht a blanket? I noticed that Paige sleeps better with a blanket. Its something to hold onto while trying to fall a sleep.
My mom has done that for naps since she has been watching Paige full time and one weekend i tried it and it helped big time.
I feel for you. Getting babies to nap is not easy at all. Its frustrating not only because you probably need a break but to be tired and deal with a cranky, overtired baby is the worst.
We have all been there. Heck, im still there. Its the only thing i dread when im home on teh weekends. Putting my DD down for a nap. Its never consistent either.
