I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
It has taken me since 2:00 - and he basically starts to cry every 5 mins. I rock him - he passes out - I put him down - he wakes up screaming.
Repeat 100 times - for each nap.
I am going to lose my mind. I CANNOT spend my days doing this.
PLEASE HELP!
What worked for you girls!
ETA: He is so overtired he goes nuts. I try putting him down before he even looks tired - that doesn't work. I just don't know what to do anymore!

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
Not the most popular answer but honestly...what works for us and Lucas is to put him on his belly.
He wakes easily when on his back and it was driving us all crazy. For us we have to deal with it but it kills me to see him so exhausted. I would also put him in the baby bjorn and get things done - he would doze but now he is way too heavy - the thought of it hurts my back.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
when david falls asleep in my arms I put him on his tummy for a nap... he has been napping much better that way, mainly because he doesnt hit his face with his arms lol but that means I dont get anything done when he is sleeping cause I am scared to leave him alone...

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
Thanks girls - I will try anything at this point. I don't know how I am supposed to start working from home when I am rocking this kid 4 hours a day.
But, let me ask you - Jack HATES belly time. Will he go for being put to sleep on his belly?

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
That was Luka until he was 4-5 months old. The most he would sleep for was 30 minutes up until then. I started to put him down exactly an hour and half after he got up in the morning and that is when he started taking longer naps. Then the next nap I would put him down after 2 hours. I would try to not keep him up that long but that didn't always happen. Will he sleep in the swing? Maybe he likes the motion. Will he sleep if you put him in the stroller? If he does you can push him around the house. I did let him sleep on me at least once a day and we both took a long nap.

ds hates belly time as well, but once he is asleep he doesnt mind being on his belly and actually naps for longer periods of time if he were in his bouncer or swing...

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
He will not sleep in the swing. RANDOMLY if he is in there - he will fall asleep. Actually, I think it only happened once.
He will sleep in the stroller. But, I have to really be outside with him. He loves the noise (THANK GOD we live across the street from the Southern State Pkwy )
I put him down every hour and a half. Doesn't matter. He still won't fall asleep.
Some days he will sleep for two hours (actually that hasn't happened in about two weeks or so) - Lately his naps have been 30 mins.
BUT - he will sleep from 8PM - until about 9AM the next morning. That's my only saving grace!

Lucas hated belly time when we started sleeping him on his back. When we would put him down awake we would have to do CIO. But when we put him down asleep (which takes some time to perfect a technique) he would be fine. It was crazy to think that awake he would flip but asleep he was happy in that position. Now after doing it for 9+ weeks he loves it and can even get himself to sleep if he wakes while we put him down...no crying at all.
And now...he loves tummy time. He can play on a mat on his tummy for a good 15 - 20 minutes before becoming bored.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
My DS is the same way. I have found that if I put him on my legs inbetween my knees and rock him for about 15 min past when he goes to sleep I can then transfer him into his crib most of the time.

He might like it better this way, it's worth a shot. Or if you are paranoid like me then I put them on their side with a rolled up receiving blanket behind their back. DD sleeps longer when I put her down like that. If I put her on her back she wakes up.

We put Lucas down after 2 - 3 hours of wakefulness (from the time he last got up) and it has to be with a bottle to get him to sleep. He has been having naps that range from 30 minutes to 2 hours...very rarely do we get the 3 - 4 hour naps anymore.
The doctor told us that while there are exceptions...most kids are either great nappers or great night sleepers (rarely both). He said take your pick...we agreed night sleeper was the one we liked best.

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
I would (and still do) rock Steven until he was almost asleep, but not fully sleeping. Then, I would put him down. He was/is usually pretty good with going right to sleep that way.
Another thing is making sure you catch him before he is over tired. Aside from reading his cues, I tried to follow the rule of not being awake more than 2 hours, or there about.
Good luck!

DS lonest naps are 30 min tops--but he does sleep from 7:30 pm to 6:00 am and then until 9:00 am....i like this!!

Re: I can't stand putting Jack down for a nap
You have to make sure that he is NOT overtired. Paige still does that. I cant put her down at all when she is overtired. Its a nightmare. She can fall asleep with the bottle and once i put her down she wakes up screaming. So i try and catch her before the overtiredness and she will fuss a bit but after that she will fall asleep.
I also let her cry for naps and it works out most of the time. She also used to nap in the swing so i had to stop that before it got bad.
