I am sooo furious!!!!

I have to get this out because I have been in a bad mood all day because of it.

Someone that watches Andrew (not my Mom) is really not taking care of him.

She tells me that she doesn't have time to feed him so she gives him bottles. I give her new diapers but she insists on using up the Size 1!!!!!

Every time I pick him up he is in a new outfit because he wet himself. And then to boot every time she watches him (once a week) she makes other plans and then drops him off somewhere else.

I am getting more and more aggravated with her!!!!!!!!!!

I really have to sit down and talk to her but I have no idea how to go about it. She is very close familyChat Icon

Wow - I don't even know what I can say to make you feel better.

You definitely need to sit her down and tell her how you feel. Tell her it is upsetting you that she is not listening to you and what you ask for her to do.

Maybe she doesn't want to watch him anymore? Is Andrew the only child she watches?

Honestly, I wouldn't be dropping him off there anymore. Is there someone else you can have watch him? Family makes it harder, but it doesn't sound like she is really wanting to watch him anyway. And if it was on my DH's side, I would make him handle it!

It is on his side but he's of course sees nothing wrong with how she is treating him.

I am so frustrated. Andrew is the only one she watches.

In that case - I think first you and DH need to sit down and he has to see what you are talking about and know how you feel.
For instance, the diapers, I am sure she is going through more than expected so that is more money out of your pocket.
All the clothes that you have to wash, due to all of the leaking.
That Andrew is not getting the nutrition that he needs - cause she is not feeding him.

And after you tell him this - I want him to explain to you - how he thinks this is not a 'big deal'
Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think he needs to see eye to eye on this situation and you both need to sit down with this person.

And my question to you is - if Andrew is the only child she watches - what is she sooooo busy doing that she can not find the time to feed him? Chat Icon

Sorry - I think I am getting just as aggravated as you are Chat Icon

Re: I am sooo furious!!!!

Its hard when it is family, but I've learned that the first time you speak up is the hardest, then it is smooth sailing from there. I would provide specific instructions and if she doesn't follow them I'd explain that you are uneasy that she is not following the schedule that you provide.

Also, I'd say that the pediatrician has recommend that he eat x amount of times a day. Maybe it will be an easier discussion to have if you blame it all on the pediatiricians instructions.

I agree with Marcie...Andrew should not be neglected and you and DH need to speak up for him because he can't do it himself

Re: I am sooo furious!!!!

What??? That is so unacceptable!! Does this person even want to be watching him? It doesnt sound like it at all, in which case I'd try to find someone else for that one day. How terrible!! I cannot imagine my DS drinking just bottles all day. Whoever is caring for him should have him as their first priority. Sorry for ranting...I know you know all this stuff...it's just so upsetting to think about a child going hungry or wet or squeezed into tiny diapers when the proper size is available. I wouldnt trust this person with my child. Chat Icon

Re: I am sooo furious!!!!

Definitely speak to her - i wouldn't even expect DH to do it - you should be able to have an open relationship with this person even if its DH Close relative and its regarding your son.

I wouldn't argue but discuss with this person that you want your child to be put in the proper diapers that you have provided (actually i would take the other ones back - give them to someone else or save them for the next child) - and let her know that she MUST feed your son - not only give him bottles but also cereal (whatever he usually eats with you).
If she doesn't have the time to do that - she really should not be watching your son.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good luck and sorry your going through this.

I agree with Marcie.

I would also tell DH if he isn't eating real food & only having bottles, you're going to have a serious gagger when it comes to food.

In the end, I suspect you're going to need to look for alternate daycare - and if you have to couch it as "he needs social interaction with other babies" - you'll be better off in the long run getting him out of the care of someone who can't find the time to feed him properly.

Re: I am sooo furious!!!!

Chat Icon I don't blame you for being angry. I agree with Marcie too. I'm sure it will be hard, but you definitely need to sit her down and ask her if she really wants to watch him. Your DH seriously doesn't think there's anything wrong with Andrew wearing diapers that are too small and just having bottles all day? I think if he really thinks about it he'll see how wrong that is. I hope it works out for you. Chat Icon
