I am home SAFE

Everyone I am home safe thank you for all the fms!

After the Virginia Tech Shooting St Johns University had many meetings about a safety plan. A plan went into affect ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO..it allowed u to sign up for ur cell phone to receive a message if an emergency on campus ensued.. students and faculty were urged to sign there cell phone up..

today at 240 every in the office started gettinbg buzzing texts that a man with a rifle was seen on campus and to lock down all there doors.

i have never been so scared in my life!! The gun man was apprehended FEET from our office door..

Supposedly a man in a hoodie, with a huge duffel bag was seen walking trhew the cafeteria with a large black duffel bag holding a george bush mask....it looked very odd and someone noticed that there wa s rifle in his bag...Public safety was notified and as he reach the 2nd floor landing right outside my office door. public safety tackled him...

texts went out..cops were on the scene in moments.. it is said that there r other pplw involved..we were locked down in our offices for 2 hrs..then office by office escorted by nypd we were moved to another "safe building" were the gymnasium was...

finally at 6:00 if u were taking public transportation u could be released..if u had a car u had to go out in shifts so they could check each car...

thank god i take the bus! outside the campus is swarming with media...

all i can say is THANK GOD St Johns implemtned that emergency text voicemail service--i truly believed it prevented an even
worse experience..

i have never been so happy to be home and in seriousness my 'experience' was barely that---i cant even fathom what kids in past situations felt as they were being shooted upon..

i m so glad no1 was hurt

First off, I am glad to hear you are safe. Secondly, that is a great system. If it isn't already used elsewhere, this is a perfect example of its effectiveness!!!!

Seriously--every news caster was asking pple how did st johns react and we said we knew in MOMENTS to lock down..ALL over campus--parking lots....lunch rooms...school rooms....nothing like testing a new system 2 weeks in the making...every company should have something like this

Thank God SJU got that safety plan in place just in time, it's a good idea and I hope more schools are doing it seeing as how successful it was for all of you. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I am home SAFE

Michi, I was just going to write you an FM to see if you had gotten out ok. They let us out a little after 6.

This new system really is pretty amazing. I have to say Public Safety and the NYPD responded immediately, and were great!

Thanks to anyone that works in the 107, ESU and surrounding precincts who responded!

Re: I am home SAFE

Thank gosh you are home safe and sound. That must've been so scary, but thank gosh they implemented that plan. My teacher assistants son had called her at work to notify her of what was going on. He is dorming on campus so she was having a heart attack!! It's so scary that there are such sick people out there! Needless to say, thank gosh you are alright!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
