Hypospadias
I am besides myself... Yesterday, i was told that our son (its a son from amnio report) hasnt developed a penis... then today, i was told he has Hypospadias and the penis is bent & curved upward. Now, i see alot of these posts were mild cases so I guess the penis was always spotted on sono, and at 20 weeks our sons cannot be seen unless there is a 3d sliced sono b/c of his upward bend. I am seeing dr palmer tomorrow w/ my sono images so fingers crossed that all goes well. If u or anyone u know has been or is in a similiar situation please please please help me she some light on this. Thank you

Re: Hypospadias
OK...this is what little I know on the subject but it might help you find some answers...
The condition, I believe, you are describing is Chordee which is associated to hypospadias.
From my understanding, while it's a little bit more involved than the mild cases of hypospadias that you are reading about on LIF, it is a condition that is correctable.
Exactly what degree of of chordee and hypospadias probably wont be known until the baby is born.

Re: Hypospadias
Oh Pjay, you just can't get a break.
I have a friend whose son had hypospadius. It was corrected with surgery which went well, all is fine. I don't know much of the condition you speak of though. I did just look it up online and it says it can be corrected with surgery.
Did they notice this during your level 2? Did the techs know off the bat from the image that something is wrong?
I will all goes well at your visit tomorrow. Sounds like you are meeting with a great dr. Please keep us posted!

Re: Hypospadias
Thanks girls- this is def the 1st and last preg i will ever have. before day 1 of this preg it has sucked. and i keep saying it will all be worth it.. hopefully i can still stand by that. can u imagine the radiologist telling u we dont see his boy parts and are u sure the amnio said it is a boy? no u cant. it was insane, he told me i have 3 weeks to make a decision if i want to terminate the pregnancy or not... what??!!!! then the genetic counselor jerk offs were under the impression that there is no penis and explaining all the reasons why this happens... mental retardation, adrenal system not working, i can go on and i on... i stopped them and said well is there a way to fix this or not, i dont care about the causes.. and they said no.... just imagine having to call my hubby up and tell him his son has no penis.... HELL i tell ya. well i spoke to the smartest guy i know in this wonderful world of human reproduction, dr hershlag (not sure if any of u know him) he wanted me to see a specialist at NYU who is the leader in his field of prenatal radiology. he did phenomenal 3d cross section images of the genatalia and showed me the scrotum (yes a boy part) and the penis folded upward and bent. (another boy part) not they way it should be portrayed but it is there and that is all we care about. usually the little pee hole is in the wrong spot so the extra part of the unused penis is flapped over (the urethra stops somewhere closer to the scrotum) instead of all the way to the tip. imagine your pinky bone stopping close to your palm (then there would be nothing but flappy skin to the rest of ur pinky) anyway, at least there is something there that a pediatric urologist will hopefully be able to reconstruct. i really hope i didnt get false hope yesterday. but hey its better then the prognosis of having to decide to terminate or not right at this moment....... sorry to vent, i just had to gather my thoughts and u guys were the luck ones that get to read it!! thanks for listening

ETA: I am so happy that you had a specialist to talk to that has shed more light on your baby boy's situation. I pray that the condition is not severe and that it can be corrected with surgery!!

Re: Hypospadias
Pjay, I know you have had too many rough patches in this pg. It makes me so upset for you.
I can't imagine being told what you were told. I just can't. I really think you will get answers today, and that it can be corrected surgically. I read about online after reading your post and although the surgery is a bit more entailed than hypospadius surgery, it is a successful surgery.

I'm so sorry you're going through this
It's unfortunate that so many Dr's speak before thinking and present themselves as if they are authoritative, yet they truly don't know the situation well at all. This is my constant complaint about physicians today.
I'm so glad you finally found a genuine expert and got some real information.
I know in my heart that your little boy will be just fine after surgery

BINGO, exactly what doc dr. palmer said. cordee w/ or w/out hypospadius. thank you for your response. i am so grateful to have my lifamilies.com family. thanks for all your support. obviously it is hard to tell anything 100% from sonogram but at least i have some hope now.

Re: Hypospadias
My DS was also born with chordee, he had his surgery at 6 months old (a few weeks ago) and did fine---the urologist assured me everything will "work" properly! Many hugs to you, I know you have been thru a lot!! I remember talking to you about the whole papA thing too---FM me for any questions, we are in NJ so I can't really recommend our ped urologist, but if I can be of any help please let me know
