How would you react? Doctors office related.

Please dont quote.

I called my OB's office first thing this morning Bc I need to reschedule my 24 week appt on jan 13th. I got asked to assist my CNO (chief nursing officer) on a project that day and I hate to say no to her.
I figured I would just switch. No big deal. I work part time so I will just take off another day.

So I ask the receptionist if I could come in the following day she says no they are booked. I go on to give her 6 other dates ranging within a weeks time. Every date and time she tells me no. So I ask her to tell me what they have and she says they are pretty much all booked in January Bc they were closed for the holidays on and off the past 2 weeks. She then proceeds to say "you know your pregnancy and your baby should be the priority not your job".

Who says that???! Am I overreacting????? I was calling 2 weeks in advance. Not like I am calling the day of. I have never switched an appt to date. Give me a break!

I would say something to the office manager and the Dr when I went in.

My old OBs office would say something like that but they were the worst people ever. The office i switched to would find an appt for me without an issue.

That comment was uncalled for but I do have the same issues at my dr's office. I have to go every 2 weeks but they won't let me schedule in advanced beyond that - like I can't just schedule a standing appt for every 2 weeks and of course they barely have anything left with only 2 weeks notice and it's even worse when I have to schedule a dr visit AND a sono on the same day around the same time. It's very frustrating.

Maybe she was having a bad day with a lot of reschedules. But your giving them a pretty good advanced notice so it should be no big deal.

I agree maybe a bad day but I have worked in dr's offices for many years. I am a nurse and I have worked both in an outpatient and I would never dare speak to a patient like that! Never.

I more pissed at her rude comment than them not having an available appt.

that comment is not only uncalled for, unprofessional and rude but just plain obnoxious and basically putting women back like 50 yrs. Obviously she prefers her patients barefoot and in the kitchen LOL
I would have totally went of on someone that said that to me. But then again I have a short fuse LOL
I just had a very bad experience at my Dr's ultrasound place where the reception desk was beyond incompetent and rude. It ended with one of them walking away from me and using a curse word. Needless to say heads rolled. I complained above and beyond.
I would call back and make sure to talk to someone else as well as mention the rude comment.

I agree it was bad wording on her part. She should have said somethjng like it is a really important appointment, and since there are no other openings maybe you can rearrange your schedule. If you say something I would speak directly to her. I would call back today and explain that it was rude and people have schedule changes, and that it is not her place to make accusations of how you prioritize your pregnancy. If she is rude after that then I would report her.

Yup got her name.
I'm just so upset Bc I am trying so hard to balance work and being a mommy. I have a 4 year old at home and its always a balance and it's hard. I would rather not be working but it is what it is and I constantly am juggling everything and then to get a stupid remark like that just was a real dig.

Wow that was rude! I don't think you are placing your job over your baby because you are switching one freakin appointment. Please just don't make that witch make you feel bad. I would complain to the office manager or even doctor at your next visit.

i would be annoyed at her comment and would say something to the doctor next time you come in
her point was probably that these visits are important and she wanted you to see that, but she should NOT have worded it that way.

as far as rescheduling a drs appointment - unfortunately it seems most doctors dont have much availability and since you are rescheduling you have to work around them.
i just had an issue with DDs pediatrician rescheduling her appt and as a result im finding a new pediatrician. they couldnt see me for 3 weeks (in the date/times i was free) but the difference is they canceled on me so i felt they should be more accommodating.

Her comment was completely unnecessary and she really should have thought before saying it.

That said, are they a smaller practice? I worked for a small specialists office, who happened to be very popular in the area. This would have been me on the phone when people tried to reschedule...(although I would NEVER make a comment like that), but there literally may not have been another appointment for her to give you.

Plus, small Drs offices get pissy when you reschedule bc that leaves them with an opening. The dr I worked for really cared about his bottom line, and hated not being booked solid. (Totally wrong, and one of the reasons I quit one day with no notice and never looked back!)

Talk to the office manager, bc undoubtedly they will squeeze you in somewhere, but you may be double booked and have to wait longer than usual.

How would you react? Doctors office related.

I was highly insulted Bc I'm not an idiot I know how important these appts are and I wasn't saying I wasn't coming. I just need to reschedule one simple appt. give me a break. What if DD was sick and I needed to cancel. I didn't realize it was that much of an issue. But like I said more than than it was her tone and comment.

that comment is definitely uncalled for, and as your job shouldnt be less important because you are pregnant, and it sure as hell doesnt mean your not putting you or your child first. Ignorant.

Incredibly rude and inappropriate. I would tell the officer manager and head doctor asap.

Her comment was uncalled for-I would call your doctor and see if they can assist you with changing the appointment. I had to have my appointment changed and although I was told there was no way I could be accommodated miraculously once my doctor called they found a spot for me. Good luck.

No you aren't overreacting. Definitely tell your doctor and the office manager. I don't know why the admins at doctor's offices are so nasty. Out of curiosity, what practice is this? I got in a full out war with the receptionist at my obgyn and I'm wondering if it's the same practice.

Re: How would you react? Doctors office related.

I reschedule all the time, and of course they're not happy about it - but never would a comment come out like that.

I would speak to the office manager or even the doctor -- it's none of her business nor her place as to why you reschedule.

Unrelated, I called one time to reschedule a spa appointment (policy is within 24 hours) -- the woman said "please call us a bit ahead of time next time." I said "Sure, hopefully it won't be b/c of a death in the family." The woman was speechless, and apologized profusely. I said thank you, but do me a favor -- don't assume anything about anyone b/c you just don't know.

Now, I never give a reason and just say "Hi, I'd like to reschedule or Hi, I have to cancel and will call back to reschedule."

I'm sorry you had to experience this. Her comment was totally uncalled for. Definitely tell the office manager. I would also say something to your OB/GYN when you go in for your appointment. I used to work in a doctor's office and while our manager would talk to us when issues arose, the message was heard LOUD AND CLEAR when the doctor themselves spoke to you about something.

I would have asked who I was speaking with, got her name, maybe not have told someone else, but at least have her thinking I would! Although if I told my mother if that situation happened to me, she would call back & complain for me lol.

Re: How would you react? Doctors office related.

Definitely a rude comment, its not for her to tell you what your priorities should or shouldn't be, she doesn't know you from Adam. That being said there is no way I would get in for another appointment, they are always always booked up even for prenatal visits. I had to reschedule my annual appointment (work related) and it took 7 months to get in againChat Icon
