How would you react?
How would you react if a grandparent tried to give your 18 mo old a taste of coffee off their finger (it wasn't hot).
I just want to see if my response was unusual.

How would you react?
Now what was the bigger offense? The fact that it was coffee or that it was off a possible dirty finger? Lol. The finger is a bit weird to me but I wouldn't mind that it was coffee. (But this coming from someone who lets their dd have soda  )

For me it was the coffee. And that it was 30 min before bedtime. But I just said "he doesn't need to try coffee" and it was over. But I wondered afterward if I was being weird bc I don't understand why anyone would offer a toddler coffee

How would you react?
I get annoyed sometimes when dds grandparents try to feed her new things that I don't feel she should have, especially when they don't ask me or dh if its ok first. I guess one little taste of coffee wouldn't hurt, but really what's the point of seeing if a baby likes coffee? It's not like they can have more if they do like it.

A drop of coffee even for a toddler isn't going to keep them up.

I've let DD try coffee several times. I don't find it a big deal and a fingertip amount isn't gonna keep her up. For me, I guess is be more annoyed about licking someone's finger, if I had to choose.

I'd be more annoyed that they were having my kid lick it off their finger than the fact that it was coffee. A drop or two of coffee wouldn't bother me, but any more than that I wouldn't like.

HA! In my family no one would blink an eye to this. We are Italian and having coffee at a young age is normal in Europe.
My DS was probably younger than your DC when he had his first taste of espresso.
I mean we aren't giving him coffee/espresso in his sippy cups but he likes to dunk his cookie in our coffee here and there. Not a big deal in my book

One taste from a grandparent's finger wouldn't bother me at all. If it was repeated tastings or sips of coffee, I would ask them to stop.

Very annoyed. I don't believe it is a grandparents place to let a child "taste" things. Only a mom can make that decision.

In that situation I wouldn't have cared. It's just a drop. But I agree, he doesn't need to try coffee. I was not pleased when my mother was letting my 2 year chug her iced coffee because "he likes it!".

A taste of coffee is probly ok...but you as the mom are the only one that should make that decision...he should of at least asked you first.

I'd be pissed...more so over the coffee than the finger...a few germs aren't gonna make my DD sick, but there is absolutely no reason a toddler needs to know what coffee tastes like!

Italian here as well and my grandmother used to give me milk with a splash of coffee from an early age. It wasn't abut deal. My dd has had sips of my coffee from my cup, liked it, but isn't going to get to drink my whole cup KWIM? Last night she had sips of orange soda while waiting to be seated at outback. She doesn't get it all the time so I'm pretty lax about it. A fingertip of coffee I def wouldn't have cared about, but it is your child and you raise then how you want
