How to Prevent Mold and Mildew in Front Loading Washer?
DH and I just got a Whirlpool Duet front loading washer and dryer delivered last night. Our last washer (front loading as well) kept getting all this gunk built up in the rubber gasket around the door. I cleaned it regularly, but it never seemed to totally go away.
Anyone have any tips to prevent this from happening again? I don't want to ruin my new set.
(I know this has been asked before, but for the life of me I couldn't get LIF's search feature to turn up anything.)

I have the same washer/dryer set and I always leave the door open on the washer so it fully dries.
Once a month, I use a special packet to clean it -- or just run it with bleach on the clean cycle.

Once a month, I use a special packet to clean it -- or just run it with bleach on the clean cycle.
I don't have the same washer, but this is what I do with my front loader.

I ALWAYS leave my washer open.
I never close it.
AND, I use those clean things. Just go to any store that sells waashers and they will sell the tabs and cleaning packets.

My Nana had a front loader years ago, and after she was finished with a load she would wipe it down with a rag where the water collects at the bottom and leave the door open. Once a month she would run it on the clean cycle with bleach (this is what I do).

Always leave the door open.
At least once a month, I run a regular cycle, no clothes, with vinegar.

This! I have the same washer and never close the door and have never had an issue and I have had the machine for over 2 years

I keep a hand towel by the washer and after a load I ALWAYS dry the door and the rubber gasket, all around. I lift the rubber a little to get under it to dry it. I also leave the door open for a day after doing a wash.
We have an LG front loader, almost 2 years now, and we haven't had a problem. My neighbor saw the machine being delivered and gave me the above tips. Having been doing them from day 1.

I dry off the rubber part and the door with a towel and I leave the door open. Every so often we run a clean cycle.

Also keep the soap dispenser open if you see water collecting in there, I removed mine to clean it and it was filled with mold  wish I knew this when I first got mine

I keep my door open AND the soap draw open at all times when the washer is not in use. I also use those tablets every month.
