Re: How soon would you take a baby on an international flight?
Given what I know about unvaccinated children in other countries - there is NO way I would take a child under the age of 15 months out of the country - and then I would only do it IF the child was on the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccination schedule. If the child wasn't on that schedule, then I wouldn't take him/her out of the country until the vaccines were complete.

Re: How soon would you take a baby on an international flight?
I live in England, and Measles outbreaks are more common these days, however they are mainly concentrated in schools. I take my son to the states at least twice a year, and we see lots of young children and babies on these flights. I personally think all this worry about other people and germs is a real Americanism, people in other countries don't worry so much, and their children aren't sick more often. The MMR is required in the UK, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. No one would fly if people were getting deathly ill daily on flights.
At the end of the day, your child has probably just as much chance of getting ill in a childcare situation, or even a supermarket as they do on a flight, domestic or international.

We flew to Eastern Europe when DD was 12 mos(11 hours). We wanted to go earlier but I was too afraid to fly until DD got her MMR shots.

I'd take her. Its London not a third world country!!
DS went to Mexico when he was 8 months old.
See, I'm so paranoid about people at the airports and on the airplanes!
I am the same way. To me it doesn't really make a difference whether I am going to Third world country or not, there are people from all over the world on the plane and at the airport, I am always thinking the worst

I didn't take DS to Croatia because I had the same worries you did and I regret it so much now. He would have been 3 months when we left and 4 months when we returned and looking back I should of just sucked it up gone. It would have been a great experience and I still haven't gone and he is going to be 3. I would go.

Re: How soon would you take a baby on an international flight?
I would do it! My nephew went to Scotland when he was younger then that and it was fine.
It's London not some 3rd world country. I wouldn't worry about who was on the plane either. You are traveling from the US.

I took DD to Portugal at nine montha and she was fine. When you get you tickets ask about the bassinet. Your baby can sleep in it on the plane. They hook it up for you, just bring your own sheets.

I would go. They're easy to fly with when that young.
Erik was international (Aruba) at 4 months. We just returned from 7 weeks in Italy/Switzerland (Erik was 8 months when we left, Ella 2.5yrs old).

Re: How soon would you take a baby on an international flight?
we took my niece to London and Paris at 7 months
she flew transatlantic and then went on the Chunnel.
she was the most well adjusted out of all of us.
she was in the carriage most of the time, so she slept when she was tired, and was up with the rest of us.
I think it was harder when we took her to California at about a year and a half. but still, fairly easy.
go and have fun. it's a GREAT time with the exchange too!

I wouldn't feel comfortable either. I would stay home with the baby. JMO
