DD turned 2 in October and we will be putting her in a big bed in the next few months. First reason is that she climbed (and fell) out in September and we're expecting baby #2 in April. If she didn't climb out, I might have considered keeping her in the crib longer.

Both my girls were 3--actually the older one was 3 years 4 mos!

I didn't see any reason to switch before that--they loved their cribs and never tried to climb out. Transition was super-easy both times.

I think my son was 2 1/2 and I knew it was time when he was climbing out of his crib.

DD was 3. We moved into our house and thought it was a good time to make the transition. She had also been in a toddler bed for over a year.

We're going to transition after the holidays...probably in late Jan./early Feb. DS is 27m right now & doesn't climb out of his crib, but we're expecting a new baby in April & I don't want to have to buy another crib so that he can have a few more months in his own.

I'm not there yet, but DS will be about 26 months when the new baby arrives and I'll just be getting another crib for the baby. He has climbed out twice, but the two times were far apart and not since then. He's not ready for a bed (he would never actually go to sleep! lol), so I'm thinking to wait until he's 3.

Ann went into a toddler bed I believe March of this year and we are considering a move to a twin in the near future.

She'll be 2.5 on New Year's Day and she never once climbed out of the crib, I just got tired of the big piece of furniture in her relatively small room.

Ok so from what some of you are saying, I am reassured that its time. DD will be 2 on 12/28. She had climbed out once over the summer but this week she has been doing it every night and then sleeping on our couch! I think we are going to buy her a twin bed - one side will be against the wall, the other side we have a railing for. I'm so sad to put the crib away my baby is a big girl

Still waiting..............and my DD is 3y3m. She's still SO content in her crib, she sleeps amazing, and never tries to get out so I feel like there is no need to rock the boat just yet. She's happy so why mess with a good thing?

DS was 17 months when he started climbing out of the crib. At 18 months he was climbing out 4 times a night. One time he fell and landed on his head because he was so tired. We switched him to a twin size bed at 18 months. My ped said he's a little young but if he's climbing out and falling it's better off that wa. He has fallen off the bed 3 times since he switched. We have bedrails but he managed to fall off the foot of the bed. We put pillows at the foot of his bed but he hasn't had any accidents since then. I have to tell you it's so much easier putting him down. I don't have to bend over the crib to pick him up. Sometimes I'll lay in bed with him and rub his back. He knows he's in a big boy bed and it's just like mommy and daddy's so he doesn't cry as much.

My question to you ladies is this.....once you put them in a big kid bed or toddler bed, was it impossible to put them to sleep? My big fear is that they will constantly get out of bed....

DD#1 was 17 months. We needed the crib for the baby.

DD#2 was 15 months. She screamed every time we placed her in the crib and wasn't sleeping through the night still. Switched her and she slept great!

Both girls went straight to a twin beds.

I think she was 1 1/2. I put her in a full thinking she had less of a chance of falling off that, than a twin LMBO. I also took the bed off and started just with the box spring and mattress. I actually had it in her room as a guest bed and breast fed her on it. I realized she didnt even think she could get off it herself, so thought - perfect! Of course I also put a gate up just in case, but no side rail on the bed. she fell off maybe twice and it was no biggie and she loves her bed :)

we did it late i guess. We just did it in november. My son is 3 1/2 this month.

He loved his crib. Never tried to climb out. Not once. But #2 is coming in february so we needed the crib.

No problems going to the bed at all!!!!!

DS was 13 months old. He hated the crib. We started with a twin on a captains bed and then moved to a full.

Dd was 8 months old. She slept in the crib once. Screamed until she threw up when she saw the crib. She had a twin in the floor I would say when she turned 4 months old, but we didn't put her in it by herself till she was 8 months old. Mattress on the floor and at a year it went onto a frame and box spring.

I feel the earlier the easier transition.

We changed DS crib into a toddler bed at 22 months, we may have waited longer but I was due with DS#2 and we wanted to get DS used to it before #2 came along, I didn't want too many changes all at once. I was also having a c-section and my dr said no lifiting for 6 weeks so that was my major deciding factor to switch him and he did great! Took a couple of weeks but he loved his new bed.
