how often do you use your fine china ?

Just curious how often everyone uses their fine china.


I used it on holidays & liked having them. I would occasionally bust it out for a nice dinner with friends or a romantic dinner with dh. DH always thought china was a waste of $, but I liked having it.


I'm looking to replace it now before thanksgiving.

Basically, never. I've been married 14 years and used my china exactly ONE time in 14 years.

I do however have Xmas china that I LOOOOVE. I use it EVERY Xmas through New Years and display it in the china cabinet too. But the regular china I have, just decoration for the most part. lol

I inherited my mom's china and didn't register for any of my own.
I use it on holidays and when friends come to dinner.
Some of the bowls and plates have small chips, but what the heck, the set is 47 years old and has been used quite a lot.

Once my kids know how to properly use it i told DH that it will be the Friday/sat/Sunday dishes along with birthday and holidays as it is used now. Oprah said once "use your beautiful things everyday". I live by this but im not going to practice on my kids with place settings that are $200+

I don't even have fine china because I knew that it would just sit in the box.

I've never used it. Been married 6.5 years.

My MIL really wanted to buy it for us, so we picked out a relatively inexpensive set. Our first Christmas married, she hosted a small early-Christmas dinner at our house, and she used it.

It has not been used since.

I never bought any... I knew I would never use it.
We don't have a dining room
I have nowhere to store it
We aren't formal people to sit down and eat off china
Plus you can't put it in the dishwasher.
Not for me.

I've used it once. It is still in boxes in my basement. When we get around to re-doing our kitchen, we will purchase a china cabinet and put it on display then.

We don't have a dining room in our house (just a large kitchen) so most big dinners are at my ILs and they break out the china.

I'm so glad we didn't register for it. I wanted to and DH said it was a waste of peoples money. I guess he was right

After my bridal shower I told my mom to hold onto it until we had room. I got married 7 years ago and it is still sitting in her basement

We don't have any. Didn't register for it, and I'm glad we didn't because I know we wouldn't bother with it, ever.

ETA: I guess I'll get my parents' set of china at some point...it was given to them by a family friend and it's from the 1930's. Pretty stuff. I'll probably break it.

I've used it one time. My mom insisted and I really loved picking it, I thought it was one of my "most important" items. Now I know better LOL Would be nice to have a "do over" bridal shower after a few years of marriage!

I use it whenever we have friends over for dinner and for special occasions/holidays. I'll be using it tonight, in fact, since we're having my family over for my mom's birthday!

I inherited a set from the 30s that I've been trying to sell. It's not my taste and the pattern and colors don't match anything I own or my style and I heard that you shouldn't eat off china made before the 70s because it probably was painted with lead paint, so I can't even pull it out on holidays, don't want to poison anyone lol

I use mine quite often. Whenever I host a holiday....or sometimes just when I make a nice dinner for me and DH.

ha, this post now has be checking ebay to replace my china. Maybe someone with the boxed sets from their shower is selling it.

as a bride-to-be I wanted the entire set of $china$.

Fast Forward 9 years...I want a nice set for the lowest price possible :)

8 years later it is still in the boxes at my parents hosue. I want to use, it, but I don't have a real dining room, so I have no place to store it.


I don't regret registering for it though. It seems silly to have something for 8 years & not use it, but I am hoping we will be alive & married for way longer than that, so we will have opportunities to use it.

Once it is in my home, I would use it for special occasions, even if it just the 2 of us.
