How much money do you spend on gifts for your niece or nephew?

How much money would you/do you spend on their birthdays, christmas gifts etc..?

I have a 1st birthday coming up for my nephew (husbands brother's son) and I'm not sure how much we should spend on his 1st birthday gift. I already picked out a really great toy for about $50 but I'm thinking I should buy him some clothes also. How much would you spend on your nephews/niece's 1st birthday?

I usually do about 50 but they are a little older (12 and 4)... for the first one, I think we did a savings bond..cant remember how much

I do about $50 for my side of the family and about $100 for DH side of the family - only because on DH side of the family there is only my dd and another niece so they tend to spend more because there are fewer kids to buy for. On my side there is 8 so we don't spend as much. This was what everyone agreed on.

Christmas usually $50...birthday sometimes more. It really all depends on the gift but no less than $50.

I have it very very difficult, 4 nephews/niece and its all from one side, so holidays I limit it to about $30 each.
Whats worse is their bdays are in the same month TOO...or nearby each other.
It becomes costly so i tend to be around the same and they love toys so its a toy and an oufit.

For the first one I spend the most, I think $150 and then I spend $50 on christmas and birthdays.

before I had a mortgage/baby, etc and lived with my parents I used to spend a lot. Usually $100 for a bday, maybe a little more for xmas.

Now that I have my own bills and money is tight , usually around $50

I have 7 neices and nephew so $25 to 30 for Christamas and $30-40 for birthdays.

I only have 1 for now and she is a few months younger then my DS, so this was her first Christmas!!


I know I got her name done in the wooden letters from Val and I SWEAR I got her something else but can NOT for thelifeof remember what, so if I did I spent about $100.

I would likely always do that until maybe a have a slew of nieces & nephews!

Her 1st Birthday I will also spend a bit more ( I want to treat her to a Music Together Semester so my sister & I can take them together!!!), but after that I plan on about $100 for Birthdays.

I tend to spend between $25-50 probably closer to $50 for birthdays and alittle less for xmas since we have a lot more people to buy for. But sometimes I will go over $50 if I fall in love with something else... I am bad like that!

We spend a lot on our nephew for Christmas and will for his 1st b-day too. My BIL/SIL are very generous with DD as well.

I'd say whatever you're comfortable with and can afford...we spend more than I initially thought we would, but it does work out for us because so far we only have one nephew...when we're buying for more in the future we'll probably decrease the amounts.

I guess i'm in the minority here because i don't see the point in spending too much money on them...

I mean for my nieces/nephew's first birthday... i got them all a savings bond and i think a toy. Don't quite remember.

I just think that it's silly to spend a lot on them when they're young since they go through clothes and toys so fast. I don't know. I mean it's when they get older that things will start to get expensive, so why spend so much now.

Then again, i'm all about less is more.

Birthdays $75-$100
Christmas $50

Nephews & God Children ... we have 2 nephews (both godchildren) and 3 other godchildren on top of that.

Since we only have 2 nephews (1 is our godson) and a niece, we tend to go waaaaaaay overboard. We love to spoil them. But sometimes I reign it in and spend around $75.

Around $100, but I only have one so far. She is the same age as DD so I got into a habit of picking up two of a lot of things, which makes the $$ sky rocket.


ETA: I have a good friend whose children I consider to be like neices and nephews, for them I spend around $50.

when we had one, we spent a lot. all the time.

now we have 9. Its down to 25.00.

We only have one niece so we tend to spend $100 or so for both her bday and Xmas. And to be honest, I usually wind up spending more.
