How much is your gas bill every month
We just got an insane gas bill for the second month in a row. We keep the thermostat set to 68 degrees during the day. I'm home with DS. After 11pm the thermostat goes down to 62.

It changes almost every month, despite balanced billing.  I was just looking at it this morning. In the past year it has been as high as $200.98 (Dec. 2012) and as low as $105.00 (June 2012). We have gas heat and stove. We do not have a big house.

Last month ours was $300. We have a larger house with high ceilings and keep the temp at 65 all the time.

Its about $280 a month. We keep it at 62 from 7am to 6pm and then 68 the rest of the time.

Our was around $300 last month. I'm the "heat nazi". Dh is always cold. He complained it was too high. I said still a hell of a lot cheaper than oil.

I just got my very first gas bill and was a little surprised. I know I like to be warm but I have a VERY small house and my bill was $240.

Ok, I feel better. Our gas bill was over $300 the past two months. I thought gas was a lot cheaper than that. It's our first year living here so I have no clue what things cost.

I was going to make the same exact post. For second time now (we moved in November), our bill has been $200-$240 which feels INSANE. We control it throughout.
Anyone have any recommendations on how to reduce it? We keep it below 70 when we're not home and around 72ish when we are. it's a pretty decent size home so not sure if that's part of it.

That actually sounds pretty high heat to me. We keep ours at 62 when we're not home. The house heats up fast, so why pay all that money to heat it up when we're not there? When we are home, during the day we keep the downstairs at 68, and the upstairs at 65 (we basically just go up there to sleep). It's at 68 now and I'm sitting here in a tee shirt and pajama pants, very comfortable.

$104/mo on balanced billing. We do have three zones though... On the main floor the heat alternates btwn 68 at night and when we're not home and 72 when we are home. House isn't huge, just under 2k sq ft. In our bedroom it goes from 65 to 70 and in the nursery guest room it's been on 65 consistently since those rooms aren't currently being used...

$90/mo balanced. We keep the heat on 64 from 7am-5pm, and 68-70 from 5pm-7am. We have central vents, and keep them closed in the basement and upstairs unless someone is using those rooms.
We also use gas for cooking and our dryer.

last year we averaged $107 per month.
In 2013, January was 159 and February was $250
We keep the thermostat at 67-69 and I am home all day with the kids.
ETA: our house is about 1800sf ranch.

$100 a month on balanced billing, gas heat water heater, dryer and stove. We don't conserve and the thermostat is on 70. 3 levels to heat. Our annual usage has never been more than $1200 a year.

$30 or so per month in the summer when I don't use heat at all, as high as $175 in the winter per month when I'm using the heat every day.

We have a small 3 bedroom home and on BB it's been around $187 a month.
I keep the heat at 70 when I'm home and usually turn it down to 60 when I leave for work.

For last month, we paid $195 for heat and electric - we are not on balanced billing. This includes gas heat, water heater, dryer and stove. Our house is 2300+ sq feet. We keep the heat at 60 when we are not home and when we are sleeping and 68 when we are home. We just got a wood stove this year and it has made a tremendous difference in our bill and in the comfort level.
To reduce your bill, check to ensure that your windows are not drafty. Also make sure you have adequate insulation.

Higher in winter obviously. Last month it was roughly $275. Over a 12- month rolling average, it averages out to about $82/month.
