$20 is good. DD likes to buy like 2 books and then spend the rest on garbage- erasers, bracelets, little notebooks, pens.

One time I sent my son in with a blank check, thinking he would be like my daughter and buy 1 book and an eraser. Yada Yada Yada, he comes home with $60 worth of books. Lesson learned, now I tell him $10.

How much for a school book fair?
Is it Scholastic? If so then $25. A lot of the books are $9.99 plus tax... so annoying to try to explain tax to elementary school kids.

Yes. My kids' school had one in January, and I volunteered. So many of the kids could not afford the books they wanted, even though they had $20. One little girl had $10 and had to settle on a book she didn't even want.

I send $11 for this reason. They usually send home a flyer with some of the books available and their prices so you can get an idea.

That's annoying. That's why I can't stand these book fairs. I can get the books so much cheaper on my own- but I know it's a fundraiser. They should work on the pricing though to avoid that

Re: How much for a school book fair?
We got a book list so we could review it and make a "wish list." The books are around $10 each so $20 only covers 1 book. I think I'll give DS $25 or $30 and tell him he can choose 2 books.
Then the letter said our children can "donate" their change to purchase more books for the school. Um, isn't that why I pay taxes?!

Re: How much for a school book fair?
My boys have so many books so I give them $10. Once in a while they buy something a drop more than the $10, but most of the moms in PTA that work the book fair know the boys so usually chip in to help and I've done the same for their kids.

Re: How much for a school book fair?
I know this is like blashphemy and all I will probably raise a serial killer- but I really am not a fan of buying books. DD will read a book once- IF i'm lukcy and she really likes it that is- and then toss it aside never to be looked at again. We are running out of space in our tiny house with no basement. I have nowhere to put all the stuff. Buying a book to me is a waste of money and space. We make great use of our library- this way she reads it, or doesn't because she "wasn't interested in it" as she says- and back it goes.
I also never buy myself books- if I do decide to read-which is only in the summer or on vacation- I use my Kindle. I have no space in my home to store 1000 books I'll never look at again
Having said that, I do send her with $20 to the book fair- because she would be upset if she couldn't participate and loves to go and look for stuff there and it's a fundraiser.

Re: How much for a school book fair?
I'm a librarian so obviously appreciate books but even I don't feel the need to buy books. My kids are younger, but I'll let them buy from these fairs when the time comes, but otherwise I bring home tons of books from the library. We read them a few times and they go back.

We are huge readers in our house but ita on this. I read multiple books a month but they're all digital borrows from the library. I own 2 physical books, 2 cookbooks, and some professional books. I almost never buy my kids books anymore, especially my 1st now that she's into chapter books she'll only read once. I get them from the library and the few books I buy we do trade with friends so that helps too.
I do give them $10-12 for the fair so they get the chance to pick something out. Yesterday, my 4yo came home with a book we already own. I half expected that but didn't expect that she would come in and immediately search for the old copy bc she knew we had it.
