How much do you spend...
on each family member(mother/father/sister/brother) for Christmas?
My family doesn't want us to spend alot of $$ for Christmas because we have big bills and a house. I'm giving them a $50 gc and I know my dad will still be mad.
My dh says my family is the only one he knows that spends the least amount on each other. He needs to realize that it's not the amount of what you spend, it's the thought behind it.

Re: How much do you spend...
Our parents we spend about $100-$200 on each. If it's a together gift, it might be around $300. For siblings, between $50 and $100 each. I have a large family, as does my DH. We go broke every December (especially when you also factor in getting gifts for all our nieces and nephews!).

Re: How much do you spend...
It varies year by year but we usually average between $200-300.
This year we went all out for my dad and bought him a 61" DLP HDTV, so that cost us a few bucks. We felt we owed it to him. He's been such a big help to us throughout the renovations and saved us a lot of $$$.

If someone is having something go on, like getting engaged or moving, or expecting a baby, we might go over what we normally would spend.

Re: How much do you spend...
Wow...we are a bunch of cheapskates...
On my side: We just buy small gifts for each other and we all chip in to buy something big for my mom each year. When I say small - I mean less than $50 per person. But maybe cuz there's six of us plus SO's.
On DH's side: We do Secret Santa with a $50 limit (we usually go over) and we buy for the kids..4 nieces and nephews @ $40/50 each.
Honestly, If we spent more than that we'd be killing our CC's.

Re: How much do you spend...
I try to stay in the $50 range for parents and adult siblings. The 3 kids in our family get something for their bank accounts and a present to open (usually in the $30-40 range). DH is the only one I spend more $$ on, and even that's not a ton. Anymore, and I'd go into debt, and that's a Christmas present I don't want!

Re: How much do you spend...
We get my IL's a gift each but its usually a gift more from Julia, we spent about 30 bucks on each of them.
My parents we got them a $50 g/c to a steak house, and a little ornament made up from Julia $15.
My brothers got $50 g/c each.
My sister and her DH got a g/c to dinner, $60 including movie g/c. Same for my BIL and SIL.
We never spend more then that on each of them, we usually give the same gift each year, its just easier that way for everyone.

Re: How much do you spend...
My parents I go over board on. My 2 brothers do not have kids, so I spend about 100 each. My Dh side we only by for the kids(4 of them) which is about 50-75 each, and do a 25 dollar secret santa for the adults.

Re: How much do you spend...
We spend $50 each on my parents and a little over $100 each on MIL and FIL.
We spend more on my IL's because they are constantly sending us goodies all year long and they take care of us when we visit. My parents are nearly as attentive.
We spend $50 on BIL and none on my siblings. I do treat my lil bro to a movie and throw 2 of my sisters' a little money to help out with their bills. My other 4 siblings don't get anything, and they don't give us anything either.

Re: How much do you spend...
We spend close to $100(could be a little more or less) on each parent...(my mom and dad are divorced and he only has his mom). We pretty much stopped exchanging with my brothers and sister and decided to focus on all of the kids instead (we usually get a very small gift for each other now). DH is an only child but we get his cousin and wife $100 GC (they get the same for us). I do get my sister about $50 worth of stuff from DS though.

ITA!!
Christmas isn't about going broke!
We spend what is in our budget each year. This year, the most we spent on 1 family member was a little over $100. Our budget was $100 each max per parent and $50 max each per child. Last year, we maybe spent half that and still got very thoughtful gifts that everyone appreciated. It's not about the amount of money you spend, but the sentiment behind it, as you said.

No we're like that too! It's hard to buy stuff for them. This year, I bought my dad beer mugs--it's what he wants. We spent about $40-$50 on each of them, but I don't really try to keep it below or above a certain number.
My brother's gift was on ridiculous sale, too , it was one the least expnsive gifts I bought.
I think other than DH, I didn't spend more that $50 on anybody.

I only buy my parents, my ILs and my nieces and nephews gifts. My siblings and I do not exchange any longer and we all agree to only spend a certain amount of the kids.

Re: How much do you spend...
I'd say roughly $100-150pp on my sisters & parents.
For Al's family, there's a $50pp secret santa amongst the siblings, and this year we spent about $100 on each of his parents (FIL's getting a joint gift for $500 from the 4 siblings). MIL got $90 show tickets. Nieces & nephews (all 8 of them!) - around $30 each.

Re: How much do you spend...
Under $75 each - usually more in the $50 range. It's a token - a sweater, a gift card, something small.

Re: How much do you spend...
somewhere between 25-50 for most relatives.
the parental units are a bit different. We're taking my mom to europe with us this summer as her chrisma-mothersday-B'day gift, and taking MIL and FIL to lincoln center and out to dinner for their christmas gift....

Re: How much do you spend...
Someone on here spends 1000 each on each family member??? Wow!!!
For DH's daughters, probably about 300 each... everyone else less than 50... For Cailen, probably about 100 this year total - this is an easier year since he cant ask for anything yet!

Re: How much do you spend...
i spend about 100 on each person.. i don't really look at the pricetags.. i just get them what i want to get them.. if i spend 80 on one and 150 on another i don't even think about it.. DH and I spend a ridiculous ammount of money on each other and a sizable ammount on the kids too!

Re: How much do you spend...
There are six of us plus spouses and tons of kids. We do a Kris Kringle for adults which is $100 limit. And then there is a Kris Kringle for the kids. You pull out names according to how many children you have. If you have two kids you pull two kids ect., that one is $50 per kid. My parents are in this to but I always buy a seperate gift if I ever get them in Kris Kringle (like this year, my dh and I both got my mom and dad). His side is small so it works out just about even. HIs parents we spend 100 his sister 100 and his two nieces 50 each. It all adds up so fast!

Re: How much do you spend...
Both my Dh and myself come from divorced families so there is step parents and brothers and sisters on both sides plus tons of brothers and sisters. For the most part we spent about $50 per person, for my little sisters 7 & 2, we spent more.
