How much did you / would you pay for a gas grill?

We've never owned or used one. DH did the research and let me know what he wants to buy.

Well. The top two on his list are $500 and $700. Chat Icon I had no idea what the prices were on these things! They're highly rated by Consumer Reports, with tons of positive reviews from people who have purchased them too. (Char Broil "Red" and Weber Genesis E-310)

It's just... a hard pill for me to swallow, for something we'll use maybe six months a year, you know? Is this normal? Would you spend this kind of money on a grill?

Thanks Chat Icon

eta: We are the kind of people to spend good money now and keep an item for as long as we possibly can. We don't typically upgrade things once we have them and stick by good products.

Re: How much did you / would you pay for a gas grill?

we bought ours when we first moved into the house almost 7 years ago and it was $650.

Yes it seems as if they are expensive but its not like you will be buying a new one each year. If you take care if it, clean it after each time using and wash everything down completly at least 2 times a year...the gril should last many years. Also, buy a cover..that is the key also.

Last year my Dh bought all new grills and burners for the grill...cost less than $100 and its like we have a new grill.

Re: How much did you / would you pay for a gas grill?

I paid around $300 last year for the Weber Genesis 210 (I think - a lesser model than what you are looking at) so that sounds about right to me.

We didn't get much use out of it last year, but this year it fired right up and we have already used it many times. It's something we will have for a long time. I imagine by the next one we will need a bigger version/more burners but this is great for the two of us for now!

I bought my DH a dropin for his 30th bday 3 years ago it was about 1k. Webers will last you a long time. It's a worthwhile investment Chat Icon

Webers are a great investment. Yes it's a lot of money now, but you will have it for years to come. Def. buy a cover and clean the grills after each use. We did not spend that much money on ours, but we have had it for 2 years and it still is working great. We love our gas grill, but only spent about $300 on ours.

I *think* we have settled on getting a Char-Broil that we saw at HD this weekend. It's around $300. 4 burners, with a side burner. We both love to grill, but we don't see the need to go nuts and get one with all the bells and whistles, b/c with care, our less expensive grill will last as long as one that is double or triple the price.

Re: How much did you / would you pay for a gas grill?

We spent $400 on a Kenmore - highly rated in CR as well.

I was willing to spend up to $500. We're not heavy duty grillers - just basic burgers, dogs and steaks. No chicken, no veggies, no kabobs. So a high-performance grill didn't make sense for us.

We just ordered the weber e320 I think. It was around $1000. It's not like we are buying a new one next year and we both really liked this one.

Re: How much did you / would you pay for a gas grill?

a good BBQ can cost you

my Dad was the king of buying a cheap BBQ every other year- until I got him to buy a Weber (I sold them when I worked at Sundown Ski and patio)

I think he ended up leaving it for the new people- it was still working great 10 plus years later - much cheaper in the long run!

plus you can always get replacement parts for webers and they have a great warrenty

I have to second Webers!!! Bust bang for your buck and as Beth stated, you can always get replacement parts.

We had a Weber Genesis Silver (don't know what model) and paid about 500-600. It lasted us 7+ years and there was never an issue with igniting it (I can't say that about some of the other grilles we've owned or my family owned.) We also used it year round. (I won't think twice about grilling in the snow. Chat Icon )

We recently replaced our Weber Genesis with another Weber (Summit S-620) because of our experience and their solid history. The only way we'd buy something other than a Weber is if we were buying high-end (5K+) and in that case it would probably be a Lynx.

FWIW, the grill we replaced still worked great. We just needed something with more surface area. We left the grill curbside and it didn't last 10 minutes. Chat Icon

I got the charbroil one on your list. it was about 500 . It was honestly really worth it! I love it and it works extremely well, cooks fast etc.

On the other hand my dad purchased it for us as a house warming gift, I didn't really wanna push it but I would've bought the weber instead! I am happy with my purchase though!

My parents Weber lasted 20 years Chat Icon

We just got ours a couple of years ago, the Genesis E-320 and we love it. At that time it was $499 and now it is up to $699 but I think it is worth the money.
