Re: How long will DH take off from work when baby is born?

i think hes going to go part time when baby comes (hes very lucky to have a very flexible schedule at that time of the year) and then when i go back to work after 6 or 8 weeks, then he will take off 1-2 weeks to stay home with baby. im not comfortable leaving a baby that little with day care and i dont really have any other choice bc i have to go back to work. thats how its looking now anyway, but we have a while to iron things out..

I'm very lucky b/c DH gets 6 weeks of paternity leave.. he's going to take 3 weeks straight and then take short weeks to use up the rest. Chat Icon

DH has two jobs. FDNY, which really I consider his part time jobChat Icon he will have a total of 11 paid weeks off (mutal pool) But will only get 2 weeks off the other one, it is way more demanding time wise and it is our main income. (no work, no pay) and it looks like I won't be returning to work, so back to work he goes !
His mother will also be taking her vacation after the babies are born (3 weeks) and then we have assorted aunts and cousins willing to take some shiftsChat Icon

I dread my first day alone ...eeekChat Icon

He'll be off for 1 week after the birth. Then my mom will take a week off after that. I'm due the beginning of November, so I asked DH to save some time so he could take Christmas week off.

He'll officially take off the week after the baby is born, but he works at home, so he'll be around to help...It's the older kids that I'm worried more about! School cannot start soon enough!

Probably 2-3 weeks. I'd actually be ok with him going back to work after a week and just taking half days for a week or two. We'll see what happens!

a month with our son.

This time... maybe a week. Then he'll use the other 3 weeks when i return to work so it's an easier adjustment.

He doesn't have a typical 9-5 work schedule, so, if he's in the middle of a work set (either 2 days or 3 days at a time) he will definitely take off the rest of that set, after which he'll be off for another 3 or 4 days. Actually now that I'm thinking about it he'll probably take the following work set off too. Which should work out to about a week and a half to 2 weeks total time that he'd be home (including regular off days).

Same here! Nassau PD??

DH gets 2 weeks paid paternity leave, but he also works from home, so even once he "goes back to work" he's still here!

Re: How long will DH take off from work when baby is born?

He'll take a few days off maybe a total of 4 or 5 days. The day of my c/s, the day we come home from the hospital and maybe another 2-3 days for me to get settled at home.

DH is a teacher and I'm more than likely going to be scheduled for my c/s 10/4. So the timing is a little wacky since it's still fairly early in the school year. DS#1 will keep his daycare schedule which will help a lot with my recovery.

Re: How long will DH take off from work when baby is born?

He only took off two days when DS was born and will probably do the same this time. DH is a teacher and can't take off alot of days.
It's going to be extra hard this time since I will have a 3 year old at home. Last time we lived in an apartment at my in-laws house. So my MIL helped me out alot. I actually prefered her over DH. Sounds awful, but DH was very nervous taking cares of DS when he first came home.

Re: How long will DH take off from work when baby is born?

just found out he get a week of paternity leave so he'll take off 2 full weeks and then work from home as much as he can for the next few weeks. I'm going to need his help with my 2 1/2 year old who is very attached to his Mommy!

I'm guessing 2 wks. It's helpful to have him around, but it also delays me getting in my groove Chat Icon

Re: How long will DH take off from work when baby is born?

with ds he was with me from the moment I got induced and then another week so about a week and a half total... he would have went back sooner because he doesn't get paid for time off but I made him stay with me a few more days.. With this dc i think a week should be fine..
