How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

From start to finish of the process?

What "method" did you use?

How old were they?

Boy or girl?

Chat Icon#1:
From start to finish of the process?3 days with 3 accidents for day time

How old were they? 27 months for day time and 32 months for night time

Chat Icon#2:
From start to finish of the process?6 days for day time

How old were they?24 months for day time, 25 months for nighttime

I just put them in underwear and let them have a few accidents. When they had an accident I had them "help" clean up. I think that really showed them fast that what they were doing was wrong without ever having to scold/punish them. My oldest got stickers for using the potty but my youngest didn't need any bribes.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

DD is just over 3 now.

3 day potty training with some of my own "tweaks", started first week of Sept and was trained by day 3

Wasnt night trained until just about this month, but started waking about 2 mths ago to go at night

Just 2 weeks ago I stopped using pullups to go out and preschool (she never soiled them, alwasy kept dry, but it was just my paranoia that she would pee in a store or all over herself in school).

Very rarely during her sleep she might pee if she drank alot and is in a full sleep, so I do still use pullups at night.

But yes, I would say shes pretty much fully trained

I swear I have a child who responds to no expert methods of anything. Sleep, potty-- what have you.

DS was a fully potty trained at 19 months during the day the night time i'm still having problems. but his pull ups are getting drier so hopefully soon he will be night time.
i basically used underwear during the day & at night pull ups. I know they say not to use pull ups!

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

I don't consider it fully PT until they are able to go on their own both day and night. So- it was 3.5 for DD#1, and 2 years,10months for DD#2.

I was VERY lax about it and really let them do it when they were ready. We did nightly "nakey time" at night with a potty chair out in their room to encourage them to sit. It started with on nightly pee on the potty, then we gradually increased the amount of time they went bottomless. Poop took longer with DD#1- she just wasn't ready to get rid of the pull-up.

My DS REALLY started when he as about 3 years, 2 months. (He would sit on the potty before that, etc, and had quite a bit of success actually going on the potty, but was DEFINITELY no where near potty trained).

It was May. I took him outside with him wearing underpants and shorts. We took a little portable potty outside with us. We spent the whole afternoon outside. He went every 5-10 minutes (I can't remember exactly). Right when we went outside, he had his first accident. He looked HORRIFIED. lol. That pretty much did it for him. He did have some accidents. But by day 3 we were out and about and he was doing quite well. I would say he was fully potty trained after a few days. We kept him in night time diapers at night for a little while, but once he was potty trained during the day, he was always waking up with a dry diaper. So we stopped using those, too.

HTH.

I tried to potty train DS at about 2 - tried for a few hours..he wasn't ready

Tried again when he was about 2.5 - worked in like 5 min! Seriously..he was just ready. He had a few accidents.

He was a little over 3 when he was able to stop wearing pull ups at night.

Both kids were just a few days.
DD was 2.5 and she pretty much trained in a day and it didn't take her long to night train. She had one accident.

DS might have taken close to a week but he took to it surprisingly well. He really wanted to go to school so that was a big motivator for him. He was 2.5. He had a few more accidents than DD...maybe 5 or 6.

I didn't use any particular method. We did go straight to underwear and DS did a lot of naked time which I think helped him a lot. We just kept the potty out and available to him.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

...yeah...totally in the same boat as you Chat Icon

DD is doing REALLY well, but her daycare requires her to be in a pull-up until she's been accident-free for two weeks. That's killing me because I don't want to pull her out of school (she LOVES it and goes every day), but I feel she's using the pullups as a crutch.

The week that she's off from school, I'm going to put her in underwear and just do it. I'm tired of her being 80% successful, and then just peeing in her pullup when she doesn't feel like going!

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

With DS it took about a good 6-7 months until he was day and night trained. I want to say 4/5 days for day trained. He was 3.5 years old when I started the training.

With DD she was day and night trained in a week and I started 5 days before her 3rd birthday.

I don't believe in forcing children when they aren't ready. I tried it with my son and it was more of a hassle than anything. I waited until they showed some signs/ interest and it was so easy.
I truly feel that if it feels like work and you want to throw in the towel, they aren't ready. There was a huge difference when I forced it and when he was ready.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

dd started at 3yr, it took her 5 full months to go day and night dry. so 3yr.5 months for dd

and

ds started at 3.5 months and it literally took him 2 days to be completely day and night dry. so 3yr.5mth for him as well.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

Welllllllllllll, is has been (and continues to be) a long process for us! We started potty training last February when DD was a little over 2 1/2. She did great with pee in a matter of days. #2 is a totally different story. She is 3 1/2 and still having lots of accidents. We have tried every approach under the sun, spoken with the pediatrician, etc. If one more person tells me "she'll do it when she's ready " I will scream! But, it's the truth! We had to pull her out of school because she's not fully trained. I don't know what it is with her. She has gone poopy on the potty, but our successes are few and far between. I have no advice, but just wanted to share my experience to let you know that if you are having trouble or you feel alone...you are NOT! I give kudos to the parents and kids who potty trained in a few days, week or even months! There is no magic trick. What works for some does NOT work for all! Best advice I can give you is TRY to stay relaxed about and don't put too much pressure on yourself or DD.

DD will be 3 in March and I am in the same boat as you. We are not even remotely close to being potty trained.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

With DD#1 we tried with pull ups for about 2 months. We weren't consistent and she didn't really care if she went to the bathroom in them.

Then one day my MIL called me and said she was putting her in underwear. She had 1 accident the first day ad 1 accident the 2nd day and has not had an accident since.

She was 3.5yo when we started.

DD#2 is already telling us if she wants to use the potty. So we'll put her on whenever she asks and she's peed a couple of times and pooped once. She's 21mos so I think we have a ways to go with her.

Re: How long til your DC was fully potty trained?

DD is fully day time potty trained. She wears undies and will go on her own at home or tell me if she needs help or we're at a store.

She is still in Pull ups at night, but we got rid of her bedtime baba on Sunday and we've been limiting her liquid intake for an hour before bed and she's been waking up dry for the last 3 days. I think I will wait another week and if she's continually dry I will put her in undies. She comes into our bed every night so I don't want her peeing my bed.Chat Icon

ETA: She is 28 months. I started potty training when she was 22 months and she got it pretty quickly but was having several accidents a week up until the last month, moreso because she'd tell me at the last second she had to go. She's finally understainding to tell me BEFORE it's trickling out.
