How long do you recommend being off birthcontrol...
before you start trying?
I know it varies for people but just curious. DH & I will start trying 2008 - just curious when I should stop taking BP.

my doc said that we could start trying literally the day I stopped bcp. Some people can get pg right away, others need time for their bodies and cycles to adjust. i think 3 mos is average.

My doctor said the same. Like the above poster said, a lot of women wait 3 months.

My doctor told me the same thing. I am going off in September, we will start TTC in October.

Doc told us same thing, my body adjusted right away.

My MD told me to wait for three months. Given all the previous answers (and the differences among them) I would recommend you ask your own doctor.

It all varies...DH & I are starting ttc in July & my doctor told me to come off in June. She said it is pretty common to get pregnant in the first month but not always true.
She did put me on prenatals though 4 months before, so I am starting them next week

It varies from dr. to dr. Some say 3 months, some 6 months.
I was off for 2.5 years. I was older and wanted to clear it out of my system before conceiving. I had not even met DH at the time. We used other methods.

I have been off BCP for almost a year now. Just know that not everyone goes back to normal right away. My cycle was royally screwed up from being on the pill for so long. I am glad I went off the pill way before being ready to TTC to give myself the time to adjust. If you decide to stop the pill before you are ready to TTC you can try the fertility awareness method of bc.

We were told one month. I was on the pill for 15 years. My first period came 34 days after I stopped and regulated between 28 and 30 days every subsequent period. Everyone is different.

My doctor said to wait for 3 cycles to start....but if I get pregnant before than not to worry...well its been 10 months and my cycle has been 40-41 days for the last 3 months. And no pregnancy...yet

I was on the pill for 6 years, went off and got pregnant the same month.
When I asked my doctor if it was "bad" that I had gotten pregnant right away she told me no and that the pill is out of your system within 48 hours of the last one you took.
