How long are you taking off for the holidays?
Just curious what everyone in the "real world" does. Working in academia has its perks. I"m taking off from the 21st until Jan 2nd. Do you all use vacation days during the holidays, or save them for the summer months?

when i first started in my company - i worked christmas week - i was off the 25th and 1st and that was it.
Now that I more senior I save vacation time and take the entire week off.
I am off from 12/24 and return 1/2

I'm only using 1 vacation day (Friday before New Year's Eve). However, I have off Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day this year.

Im off from the 23rd to the 2nd. We are closed for Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and New Years Eve. I only had to use 3 vacation days for 11 days off. Not a bad deal!

My company gives me the 24th and 25th off and also Jan 1st. That's all I'm taking. Everyone in the dept puts in for that week off and they all fight for it. I'm not going to even try to take that week off until I have kids.
It's such an easy week anyway - it's short and no one is around so there is never a lot of work to do!

i work at a school, so i have off from the 21st to January 2nd.
DH has a lot of "comp time' saved up, so hes taking the week off with me... we'll go down to south jersey to see my parents for a few days, and then maybe out to PA to see his parents, or just come home and work on our bathroom remodel thats taking FOREVER!

i am using my "credit" time to take off the friday before and the day after christmas. . .the friday before is my birthday otherwise i would have worked and we have off christmas eve and christmas day. . i am working new year's eve though since i am trying to save more hours for the wedding

I'll be off from the 22nd - Jan 1st. I go back Jan 2nd.
We have forced shutdown days during that period and most people are actually required to take off. You have to get special permission to work that week. Of course, my boss TRIES to get permission for us to work.

I'm off the 25th and return the 7th. This is mostly because i have 11 left and decided to wait until classes were over for the semester to take time.

We have off the 24th, 25th, 31st, and 1st. We get out early (supposedly at 3pm but, it's usually more like 12 or 1pm) on the 21st and 28th...
I'm working the 26th-28th on a "modified" schedule (long lunch if needed, come in late, leave early, etc...) I am changing departments so I am hoping to use those days to pack my office up and move (if they don't make me move sooner than that). It's super slow those days and we're allowed to wear jeans and sneakers so it's perfect for packing/moving.

Our office is giving Christmas Eve and Day off.
Also NYE and New Year's day. It's pretty sweet this year especially since my birthday is Christmas day and we're hosting Christmas Eve dinner since it's our first married Christmas.
