How far out do you typically plan vacations?
I'm talking the big vacations - honeymoon, anniversary, out of the country and do you typically buy trip insurance?

How far out do you typically plan vacations?
Vacations that are longer than an overnight are generally planned six months or more in advance. I get trip insurance for all trips involving flying or cruising.

Yeah, I'd say between 6 months and a year. I've never planned a vacation more than a year out.

I'll start brainstorming and tracking flight prices about 6 months out...depending on price patterns, I'll book when the time is right.
I don't buy trip insurance.

Couple months to a couple of weeks. I plan a lot, change a lot, and am always booking things last minute.

We haven't done any huge trips since kids, but we do go to Florida 1-2 times a year, and other trips as they come. We usually book Florida 3-4 months ahead of time. I just booked another Florida trip yesterday and we leave in 3 weeks. So it really depends. We also try to do a few trips within driving distance and those are always more last minute. If we are flying, I buy trip insurance. We never did before, but then last year DH tore his bicep and needed surgery. We've purchased it every time since then.
