How far in advance do you plan your vacations?
Week long or extended weeekend... :)

It depends. This year we went on a cruise with 10 days notice. Decided less than 2 months before to actually go to St.Lucia (we've been kicking it around for a year, but our October Disney trip has been booked since January and by the end of the summer, we should have our Feb 2013 Disneyland/Aulani trip booked.
We're always kind of indecisive but when it comes to Disney we know we'll be going and we have DVC, so that's always best to plan in advance.

We usually plan our larger international trips several months in advance, buying plane tix 2-3 months in advance. Then we book everything from there little by little (we don't do tours).
My mom, who does group tours, books her trips 8-10 months in advance. personally I could not wait that long in anticipation for a trip!!

Week long trips - to places like WDW, cruises, Europe etc I tend to plan at least 10-18 months in advance. Long weekends or short trips - I plan a few days before to a few months before.

Same here. We booked this particular trip 2 months ago, but we had a plan set to go for about 4 months.
I always like to have something in the works at least, it gives me peace of mind to know that one day soon I get to go away for a whole week.  Plus, trips seem to be over so quickly that the anticipation is half the excitement!

DH has to pick his vacation weeks in October of the year prior, so we usually have a general idea of what we are going to do and when.
We also have a time share in St. John that is a floating week. Once I know the week that DH picks, I start looking for airfare and book that.
We booked our recent cruise one year ago while on a cruise. No airfare this time.
long weekends we play by ear and make plans whenever we know that we are going away.

Thinking about where to go, the day after we get home from the last trip. Actually booking a new vacation, 3 to 4 months out.

I don't like committing to anything too far in advance, so I tend to book trips within a month of going, even if I start thinking about it & doing preliminary research a few months earlier.

I start research about 2 months in advance and usually book everything a month in advance.
I know some people book waaaay in advance but it is hard to predict our work schedules that far in advance. Like I know we are doing certain trips in the summer but don't know exactly which week.

I plan week long family trips usually 4-6 months before. Weekenders usually come up spur of the moment.
