My parents are 10 mins away and will watch the baby. My ILs live in Florida.

How far do you live from either set of (or single) parents?
I wanted to add that living closer is also easier when picking up and dropping off DC.
When the weather or traffic is bad, having to than travel another 25-30 minutes will start to get to you IMO anyway.
I commute and sometimes when my commute has turned into 2+ hours because of traffic of weather, its nice to get just get to my moms, put DS in the car and be home within 5 minutes.

I won't be doing it  DH will. BUT, his parents house is 5 minutes from the business, on the way back to where we are considering renting. So even though we would be living 15-20 minutes away, it wouldn't add more than 5 minutes on each end to DH's commute.

my mom lives 2 blocks away
DH was concerned when we moved (4 yrs ago) that she would come by non-stop etc...but we both loved the neighborhood and the price was right etc. thankfully she doesnt bother us at all. in fact having her so close has been amazing since dd was born. she never comes by unannounced and rarely invites herself over (i would say maybe 3-5 times she has said oh can i come by in an hour to drop stuff off - dd is 3.5 months old).
but you know your family and inlaws best and you have to do what you are comfortable with.
i would say 10-20 minutes is a good distance.

We live one town over from my ILs, and my MIL cares for DD two days per week (she's in daycare the other 3). We looked at a house that was right around the corner. Beautiful house, but it was way too close. We did not want to be in walking distance. We are now 3 miles away, about 7 minutes. It works out well, IMO.

1 mile from my parents, MIL is 15 min away, FIL is 20 min away. DH drops off DS at times to my father to watch during the day, so it is convenient for him since we are so close to my parents.

Live where you want to live. Especially if you're looking to rent, it isn't such a permanent decision at this point.
If IL's overstep their boundaries and pop in, then open your mouth and tell them its not acceptable.
We are 5-10 mins from both sets of parents and nobody drops in. They know that won't fly with me.

My inlaws are less than 5 minutes away and my parents are about an hour and a half away.
Since it's just a question of 10 minutes, I would choose the area that works best for you.

STILL living with mine lol... move in date was pushed back...
Shauns mom lives 11 blocks from my parents in Rockaway and his dad lives in Manhattan
ETA: once we move home it will be about 3 minutes away

Having my parents that close is a blessing and a curse. If I need them to pick DS up from daycare or babysit for any reason they're there in a second. But sometimes I feel like I see them EVERY DAY.

If we do daycare it will be at a location in between where are planning to live and where ILs live - because that will be on DH's route to/from work, so it would be closer to them anyways. I think it's gonna work to be in the apartment I like 15-20 mins from them. I think for now it is our best option.

My mom lives about 8 miles away. It's a 8 minute drive and a 20 minute bike ride. My mom will be watching the baby once I go back to work. Ideally, I'd like for her to come to my house every day but that's unreasonable. I'm glad she's close enough that I can pick her up in the am and then drive her home later that night.
My MIL lives about... 15 minutes away.
I wouldn't mind my mom living in my town. Just on a different block lol.

We are close to both sides- My parents are in the same town about 3 miles away. DHs mom lives a few towns over (about 5-6 miles away).
I think a few miles is enough. I would never live next door to or on the same block/ neighborhood as either side.
Neither my mom/dad nor my MIL ever just comes by. In fact, if I didn't make the effort, we wouldn't see them so much.

We live with my parents in a 2 family home and we love it for the most part. My kids really love it! My MIL lives about 8 hrs away and that isn't far enough.

my parents are only 2 blocks away and they watch DS and it makes my life easy. But i wanted to live that close. Also helps if last minute i need to get my DD off the bus.
My in-laws are about 15 minutes away.

When we were on LI, we were about 30 minutes from both sets of parents. My ILs still did the dreaded pop in, but it would be "oh we were on our way home from blah blah blah, and you were on the way". So pop in kind of people will find a way to pop in no matter what. FIL even popped in once cause he had "to use our bathroom" - BLECK!
Now we are in NC. My parents are 5 minutes away and the ILs are in NY. My parents aren't pop in folks, so it works out perfectly!

Lets see…
Around 1800 miles or 27hrs from my in-laws
And about 1059 miles or 16hrs from my dad
But my dad is moving to San Antonio this month so it will be around 30mins once he gets here.
My closest relative (my infamous auntie) is 26miles away and about 20 total driving in non-traffic, during traffic it can be up to 30-40mins. Which is why we don’t do drop off pick up during the summer. We couldn’t get there until 6:30pm and we’d be home at 8pm only to turn around the next morning at 6am.
But I prefer the buffer. I hate people all up in my business. But last night the distance sort of freaked us out a bit. Yes I wish my dad was next door, if only he could drop my step mother off a cliff along the way!
