My birthday is in November.
The only reason I sometimes hated having a November birthday, is that my parents are very strict. You only get to celebrate your birthday on the DAY of your birthday.
No party the following Saturday or Sunday -- nope you get one day and that's it.
Growing up my birthday always fell during the week, when we had school. So just about every year, never got to have a party or much of a celebration. My brother however, has a birthday in August. EVERY.single.year. he got a pool party.
When we have our children, we won't do this and we'll celebrate when we can! That will stop the crappy part of having a November birthday.
Obviously, you weren't your parents favorite.

this is the only reason i would hesitate. we are going to start 9 months prior to January to avoid this issue (among tons of other reasons)
eta yes, i know this is a silly thing to think about but when you are in the planning stages of TTC, you obsess about everything, esp. things u cant really control!!!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
I would love to have a December baby. It's such a magical time and i can picture sledding and hot cocoa parties. I originally wanted a summer baby b/ c it's more convenient to me for work, but I'm looking for a healthy baby born any month now. Actually a summer party is the hardest to plan to me. Most of my family goes away for the summer months and between graduation parties and weddings, available weekends are hard to find.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
It's not a huge deal and I certainly wouldn't hold off ttc just because of it.
That said, my b-day is in January and DH's is in December. Just today we were saying how we hate our b-days. His is right before Christmas and I was saying how my b-day parties were always canceled as a kid- either due to snow storms or me being sick. It kind of stinks, but it's not such a big deal. (My DS's b-day is in June which I LOVE!)

I'm in January and I hate it. Too close to Christmas, people always give me combined gifts, and countless parties were ruined by snow. My DS was born 2 days after me, and now it's a PITA planning his parties. DD was born in August...so much easier.

I don't see the big deal about this. I was always one of the oldest in my class, and it really was a total non-issue. In fact, I liked it. I have absolutely no problems with my Dec. 30th babies being the oldest in their class.

i was never thrilled with my bday and neither was DH (we're both late november and often during t-giving weekend). he wants to NOT TTC during the months that could produce a nov/dec/jan baby. I told him to kiss my heiney! is it "ideal"? no. but we both turned out JUST fine.

WOW!! that's terrible!! the only thing that I could even compare this to was on wife swap... the one family celebrated ALL their kids bday's on ONE day..... they had ONE BIRTHDAY DAY A YEAR... and your bday could be 6 months before or after the day they picked to celebrate ALL their kids bday's in one shot.
And yes, not doing that to your kids will sure stop the crappy part of your Nov birthday. I always loved my Nov bday. sorry to hear this.

In fact, I think it's better to be an older kid in class, especially in the first couple of years. Gives kids time to mature, be more prepared, etc.
DD will be one of the youngest kids since she was born in Aug and the cutoff down her is Sept 1. She will be fine and it shouldn't be a big deal.
But DS is a Nov baby and will be one of the older kids. I think he will need that extra time to mature, hone his skills a bit so I am absolutely fine with it. He will dominate his kindergarten class

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
to all of the ladies who think they can 'plan' when they will have their babies.. good luck to ya on that one!
i really think you're over thinking the whole thing as a PP said. You really cannot plan when you will have a baby - its complete luck for most of us. I would not hold off TTC'ing, or take a break from it, in order to try and control what month your child is born in.
I was a November baby.. never even gave it a 2nd thought that it was too close to anything else. I never felt left out of anything.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
I am a January baby, 2 wks after Christmas. I always liked it- especially as an adult since I find January so blah. It gives me something to look forward to after the holidays and I milk it as much as possible.
As a kid, I envied my brother his June b-day because he had outdoor parties and thus more kids. But that's it.
And as others have said- it's hard to plan when you're going to have a kid.

I am a december birthday and it never affected me growing up. I was the youngest in my class (growing up in queens) and the smallest and it never botehred me. Maybe it was a pain for my mom to plan parties but other than that no biggie.
Same here to me it makes no difference what month you are born in.

To me, all that matters is a healthy child.
I think the summer (especially June) is jam-packed with birthdays (I can think of at least 10 right now) and in July/august kids don't get to celebrate in school or everyone is away at camp etc. so there can be "drawbacks" in every season.
ITA In the end you will not be able to control when you get pregnant. I agree that there are drawbacks to every season. If you have a summer birthday you can't celebrate you b-day in school. If you have a winter birthday you have to worry about snow. Don't worry about it too much.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
I love my mid-November birthday. My daughter has a mid-December BD and it works well also. My mother and SIL share Dec 17th, my sister gets shortchanged with a Dec 25th BD, as does my nephew on Jan 1, and my brother feels he got less attention and gifts with his Jan 12th BD as people were holiday-ed out.
And, you most definitely can get pregnant immediately. I did first try, according to my dates and my doctors, with both of my children.
Good luck!

I actually agree that it is better for DD to be an older one in her class. It's just annoying now, because I can't start DD#2 in a 2 yr old school program (like DD#1 attends now) until she is almost 3 yrs old. So, next Sept. DD#1 will be in her second year of "preschool" and DD#1 who is 14 months younger, won't be able to go to "preschool" until Sept. 2012. And I also have to figure out whether I am going to hold DD#1 (an Oct baby) and send her to Kindergarten when she is 5 yrs old so my DDs will be 1 year apart in school. Such decisions! LOL!

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
My birthday is December 22nd, and I hate it. I was always getting combination gifts and the family celebration was always at Christmas or Christmas Eve, nothing felt special. People were always out of town when I wanted to have my party. I ended up having my Sweet Sixteen in February so I knew people would be around for it.
DD's birthday is January 11th and I hate that too. I would change it if I could. There is nothing to look forward to during the year. I will probably celebrate her half birthday when she is old enough to understand.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
My son's birthday is in early December (he's 3, so he's fine with it now, though what he'll think in a few years remains to be seen). It's a good time actually for that time of year--after Thanksgiving, but not too close to Christmas. We tried forever TC, so I didn't care when he was born.
DHs birthday is in late November, and sometimes hits at the same time as Thanksgiving. I know he feels his birthday gets eclipsed by the other holidays, though we try to celebrate a little earlier, mid-November.
Mine is in August, and I liked having outdoor parties, but on the other hand, I wished I had a school year bday so I could bring cupcakes to school.
I wouldn't worry about it--DC will adjust whenver his/her bday is.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
I have 2 opinions on this. My birthday is December 29.
The likes: My mom is the 17th of December, and her mom is the 28th of December. So in THIS family, nobody EVER forgets or gives a combination present, and birthdays are always celebrated separately from holidays. I never minded having this birthday, and always thought it was cool being right after my grandma. In fact, to this day, we celebrate our birthdays together (my choice - every year, grandma asks, "Are you sure you still want to?") and it's become a tradition to eat stuffed shells that my mom makes, but we each get our own cakes :)
The dislikes: COMBINATION PRESENTS!! Birthday/Christmas cards combined! Birthday gifts wrapped in x-mas paper because "This was all I had!". Mostly my step-father's family is guilty of this. They just don't understand it, and I always say to my mom, "They don't wrap a present for someone born in August in snowflake paper" or "They wouldn't combine a present for someone born in June." It's kind of a lost cause with certain people because they simply just don't get it.
I was also one of the older ones in my class. Never mattered, but it was kind of weird to be driving so much earlier than my friends, or having to wait for them to turn 21.
Because my birthday is right in the middle of Christmas and New Years, I was never in school at the time, and people often forget about it. Even with my jobs, I had been working in a school, and this year my agency closed that week, so people also forget then, too. As I got older, I stopped caring, but it still hurts to be forgotten. I would prefer to not have a baby this time of year, but I know that I would treat that birthday special, just as my family always did for me.
Also...when I was younger, I had a pool party at Safe-T Swim (indoor pool), and it was awesome!

I have to be honest. DD is November 26, and if I could change her b-day I would. It is on Thanksgiving every couple years, so I feel she misses out a bit....and it is a month before Christmas....From November 26 to December 25th it feels like a presentfest. Also with the expense of the holidays it gets tough trying to plan and have parties (I know we don't have to have them, but I do). So if I could have timed it different, I may have....but I wouldn't change anything now because that was the best day of my life, no matter what it falls near, even though I may complain sometimes.
My Bday is the same day as your DD and my Birthday was always celebrated on Thanksgiving day, when I was younger I always wondered why I never got a big party. My sis was born in July and always had huge bday parties with bbq and lots of gifts. As I got in my teens I couldn't care less!

I am June also. DH is Feb, and BIL is Jan, They both hate the timing of their birthdays to be honest. When they were growing up, they had limited things they could do b/c everything pretty much had to be inside. DH even had his part cancelled more than once due to snow.
DS2's b-day is the end of February, and I am already stressing where to have his birthday parties when he is school-aged.

Re: How do you feel about your November/December/January birthday?
DD birthday is in November and I actually liked having her that time of the year. She was so little that I did not mind staying inside during the winter months, and by spring she was the perfect age to take her out to the park, beach etc.
As for birthdays..we've only had her first and we had it in October so we could have it outside.
The only thing I'm not crazy about with an end of year baby is that she will be the youngest in her class.

I think I wrote the same thing!
ETA: My little peanut is due at the end of May. We have about 5 family birthdays in May. The baby is due on my FIL's bday and my mom and niece's bday is 2 days later. Will I complain that it will have to share it's bday or have a combined party? No. I am just so grateful I am having this baby.
So rather than worry about how it will feel having its bday during a certain month, focus on the HAVING a birthday! As the parent, you will do whatever you can to make its birthday special.
