How do you deal without a video monitor
We were out tonight - my dad was babysitting Jack - apparently he kicked the adapter out of the plug - and now I can't see him in the video monitor.
I'm going to try and sneak in there to put it back - but was hoping you could all tell me how you get along without seeing them overnight.
I am so antsy right now - it's kind of freaking me out.
I am going to peek in on him in a little bit - but he woke up for my dad and hasn't been sleeping that long so I don't want to risk waking him again yet.

Diana, I don't use a monitor at all anymore!
Just relax!! He is fine in there and if he isn't, you will hear him

I think it's b/c I never had one.... I can hear her, and that's all I need. I think if I ever had a video monitor and lost the picture I would be a wreck!

I know - I'm crazy and neurotic - this is my thing - I like to see his cute little body on the monitor at all times.
I was going to move his crib right when I got home to plug it back in but my dad talked me out of that one!

It's all good, I go and check on the kid, but I found b/c our rooms are right next to each other there was too much noise on the monitor and would wake us both up.
I'm glad your dad talked you out of it Is he still waking at 4am? You only have 5 more hours til he wakes up then?

Re: How do you deal without a video monitor
If he was able to kick the plug out, I would worry that he could reach his hand back there and get ahold of it.
I've never used a video monitor, never felt the need and I deal. I check on her before I go to bed. If she happens to cry for more than a few minutes I go in. If I had a video camera in there, I would probably get zero sleep from watching it all the time
He'll be fine

I actually keep the sound off because I could hear his scream a mile away!
I don't want to answer your question because then I will jinx myself -- every single time I write something on here - he does the complete opposite -- so you get the drift!

Re: How do you deal without a video monitor
I would go nuts without my video monitor. LOL...so I understand. I'm a HEAVY sleeper and even with the monitor on my pillow I dont wake up sometimes to his cries ...
We close his door since theres so may rooms near his, that it has to be closed and I have to have the ability to "see" him.
Advice? Alcohol to make you sleep. (didnt say it was GOOD advice)

Oh - believe me --- this has been a MAJOR MAJOR issue of mine - which is also why I am freaking right now! He has knocked it out maybe 5 times in the last 15 months - but I still don't like it! I try to block it with the rails - I'm going to have to do something about this tomorrow!
UGH - Summer - you were supposed to make me feel better -- now I may have to go in there and just plug it back in!

If he hasnt "found" the wire before, chances are he WONT tonight!
Maybe move it tommorow though. We have moved ours all over the room. Still works awesome.

Yeah - that is just the most bizarre thing I have ever seen.
Door wide open - talking normal - folding laundry and putting it away in the kids room while he sleeps -- I could never!!! I pretty much crawl out of Jack's room when I have to go in there!

I do the same thing!! Christopher could sleep through an earthquake I think.
(I guess living near an airport, with a husband who starts his LOUD Mustang makes for a kid who can sleep while it is noisy )

Re: How do you deal without a video monitor
Ours actually broke two nights ago, thing was boiling hot for some reason, monitor part wasn't even on, anyway....I felt lost without it last night, I had to go in and check on him a few times.
He's 19 months, and I have to see him at least 254365476 times before I go to bed lol

Babies R Us: $4.50
Keeps the plugs safe from wandering hands and feet....
We've never had a video monitor, and we were anal about safety stuff (we had the AngelCare motion sensor, and sound monitor). We figured if DC woke us up, we might as well check on them.
I MAY think about getting one when DC are teenagers, though...

Thanks so much - I've never seen this before. Also - do you know if this goes over the fatter plugs - bc it's one of the big ones (not the regular ones shown in the pic)

It's pretty big. It will cover a "power brick" plug as long as it isn't too big. If the brick is too big, you could get a short extension cord, plug the extension behind the cover, and plug the brick into the extension, far away from DC.

Can I ask you another childproofing question while I have you
We had the babyproofer come in months ago and take care of pretty much everything. The one thing we did not secure at the time was the TV in our bedroom. It's not a flat screen - or a plasma - maybe it's about 5 years old - so one of the fatter ones.
We want to secure it somehow. I just don't know how to do it. We're on the verge of just buying a flat screen and putting it on the wall - but maybe you have a better solution that won't cost me $2,000 . I have been meaning to call the babyproofer also - I have to do that today!

This is what I need for our LR.
Diana, we never had a monitor. We never had an issue. I have "mastered" the art to sneak in.
