it really isn't all that difficult.

ok, so i'll send someone a work email and it has my signature with my FULL name spelled out.

they respond: liz, can you...
hello liz...
hey liz...

how can i then respond to that email and let them know that i do NOT want hem to refer to me as LIZ!!!!?????

Haha I could have written the same thing! My name is Elizabeth and I don't go by Liz but when people see that my name is Eizabeth they automatically shorten it to Liz. I hate it! Lol

Reply to the email and at the end say "I would appreciate it if you would refer to me as Lizbeth, thank you."
Or something along those lines.

I thinkl you just tell them politly and professionally.

Dear Jane,

Here is the work (etc) you asked for.

And as a small side note, I do go by Lizbeth, not Liz. Just wanted to let you know for the future.

Have a great day and I lookforward to speaking with you soon.

ETA: Its keep iot light and nice. Your not saying "Your an A hole and Im mad". I think she will get the idea without being put off.

But in these situations, saying it nicely is the way to go.

I don't think you should respond to the e-mails and correct anyone. I'd just mention it in person. Is there another nickname you use- your username is Libby... I'd try to get them to use that instead and start signing my e-mails with that.

Otherwise, I'd just accept it- there's several people here who call me by the wrong name- I just live with it. One of them I got annoyed one day and corrected him. He was so apologetic and then the very next day called me the wrong name again. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here. My job just assumed I went by Liz when I started and I didn't know how/was too intimidated to correct them. 4.5 years later people are still calling me Liz. I just deal with it. It's work. My office mates know what to call me Chat Icon

Good luck!

It's easier when it is a new person--if they say Hello Liz, you can say, actually it's Lizbeth. ( in person/on phone)

It's harder when you don't nip it in the bud. People I work with shorten my name to it's first syllable (it's not even a nickname) & I hate it, but I should have said something 15 years ago!

It also really bugs me on behalf of other people.

I introduced a vendor to a business associate of mine, as a potential client. His name is Michel. I pronounced it that way--several times--and then, after Michel left, the vendor kept referring to him as Michael. I should have been more clear, but I just came saying His name properly, hoping he'd get the hint.

This man doesn't Americanize his name. He isn't American. He doesn't even live in
the US & his real name isn't hard to pronounce.

I don't say anything. I just always refer to myself by my full name and usually they get it..eventually. I don't want to risk insulting anyone by correcting them. I feel like that can come across as scolding, KWIM? And it's really not that big of a deal to me. I've been called worse! But if it's important to you, the PP had good suggestions.

I've tried. Over and over again and some people just don't get it. Professionally, I go by my full name, and introduce and sign everything as Patricia. No need to call me Pat. Chat Icon

how do i do this politely and professionally?

I have the opposite problem lol. My work email shows up as Elizabeth Lastname and my signature says Liz. I prefer most people to call me Liz since only family calls me that. Yet almost every email I get refers to me as Elizabeth. It bugs me so much!

how do i do this politely and professionally?

I have the same issue...people assume I go by Kate or Katie even though everyting (my signature, biz cards, etc.) have my full name.

But really, its a work email. I honestly don't even care.

this.

Still you have to say it a million times. I have a chinese last name and some take it to use my last name AS my name. Which to me is awkward.
